As we found out when our taxi pulled up at the wrong one first there are two Doltone Houses at Pyrmont, one at Jones Bay Wharf and one at Darling Island Wharf. We were there for a wedding reception at the Darling Island Wharf venue and while as a guest I have no idea of the cost paid I can say the food was the best i have ever had a such a large function (450 plus). The calamari and baby octopus were incredibly tender and tasty. The mains of chicken and steak dishes which my wife and I shared 50/50 were hot, juicy and tasty. I don't know how they got so many meals out so efficiently and yet maintained restaurant quality. There was so much food it was heartbreaking to see prawn and oysters left over.
The room was beautifully set up and the ladies loved the large cushioned dance floor which proved to be no problem with stability but did mean less strain on their feet when dancing. The venue perfectly complimented the happy occasion and everyone I spoke to was blown away by how great everything was. The staff were terrific. The reception was due start at 6.00pm but a good number of us were waiting outside from around 5.15. At 5.30 a number of staff starting serving us with trays of beer, wine and bubbles while others put the finishing touches on the room. A night to remember.
