Description: Longrain Sydney is located at 85 Commonwealth St in Surry Hills. Inspired by the communal eating philosophy of the Asian table, our menu is made up of dishes created for sharing. Longrain's menu has evolved from Martin Boetz's original Longrain vision, bringing South East Asian influences to carefully sourced ingredients with fresh, zingy flavours. His vibrant menu is carefully balanced with wines and cocktails chosen by restaurateur Sam Christie. Our long, shared tables encourage the spirit of eating together, so you can try each dish as part of a full tasting experience, just as it was intended (limited reservations available). Book one of our individual tables for parties between 6 - 10 people; or Private Dining Room for 12-18 guests.

“Great food ...but lack of light was very, very annoying! (Impossible to read the menu)”
Reviewed 14 August 2014

This modern Asian cuisine restaurant comes, relatively, recommended by me.

The food is fresh and tasty with interesting food combinations that pique your taste buds! Tables are very long with communal, casual dining.

Annoyingly, insufficient brown rice was provided for the three of us ...and our generous selection of entrees and main/savoury dishes. (We should have requested more...but it was too difficult, as we were time-limited in our stay.) Service was efficient and friendly .

I am very keen on mood/romantic lighting but we dined in the evening and truly, it was impossible to read the food or wine menus ... or see the food properly, due to the lack of lighting. I gave up trying to read the menu, which I really was keen to do, as I had long-wanted to dine at this well-regarded establishment. So that was a very disappointing aspect of the night for me (and others).

Table candles are desperately needed! We resorted to reading the menu with our mobile phones which was ludicrous and also most annoying. A far more enjoyable experience would have been had with the provision of a simple table candle! ( Maybe this is a restaurant that should be avoided for evening dinner...and only used for luncheon dining?)

So good...but a tad disappointing:)

“Amazingly good food - curry, pork, veggies, everything!”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

A colleague brought me to this one. Not on the main tourist neighborhoods such as The Rock, but boy was this good! Had the betel leaf with pomelo as starters, then shared coconut tumeric curry and caramelised pork hock and some veggies. The pork was so tender, so sweet at the same time, it was like a dessert :-) The curry was so well-balanced, the taste melted on the tongue. The athmosphere was really nice, fresh Tiger beer from the draft - what more can you ask for? Highly recommended, to have great fusion Asian food.

“Recommended and proved a great night”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

My 17 year old daughter dined here on a 4 day stay in Melbourne. It came highly recommended and didn't disappoint. I knew we needed to go early so arrived 6.45, we had a drink in the bar first before our table was ready.
Had a really helpful waiter, thanks to him we made great choices and every single dish was beautiful. The restaurant atmosphere was lively but you could still have a conversation .

“A real favourite!”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

What started out as a quick drink downstairs turned into a wonderful evening of great food and wine. The downstairs bar has a relaxed and understated vibe and just invited us to stay a little longer and have something to eat upstairs.

We went "off-piste" from our normal favourites and chose Salt and Pepper Tofu, Pork Hock and Crispy Fried Barramundi. We had friends and shared the meal. The Tofu raised eyes when we ordered and became the favourite dish when tasted.
