Definitely touristy, but affordable for the neighborhood and a quirky way to try some Australian game (e.g. emu, crocodile and kangaroo on pizza.) Service is friendly, pizza if decent and drinks are affordable.

We stayed here for four nights and being in The Rocks it was very convenient. We wanted to stay in this area as we were running the Sydney marathon so wanted to be near the start and finish. The room was very comfortable and the lounge area was much appreciated after falling ill and needing somewhere to relax that wasn't the room. The complimentary continental breakfast was good with tea and coffee available all day. Being above a pub, it was quite noisy but after a days sightseeing we were very tired so slept well. As we were here in September it wasn't too hot so we didn't have any problems with the room being too warm, but I imagine in the summer this might be a problem. All in all we would definitely stay here again, good value for the location especially as breakfast is included.

What a delight to step inside.
This was just a fantastic place to stay in the Rocks District of Sydney.

Adorable room, lounge was a great place to relax at the end of the day.
Ate at the bar and it was delicious.

I will be back and given the location, can't ask for more.

** I did have earplugs and would advise to take a pair along as after all you are sleeping above a pub. I however, slept like a baby.

Room Tip: It was winter in Australia so not sure if there is a/c. As mentioned take earplugs as you are sleep...

En route to the Bridge, slightly away from the general Rocks hubbub, limited variety of food but I recommend the large (12" / six slices) kangaroo/ crocodile and ostrich pizzas & beer in pints! Great atmosphere and service. :)

We were in the city with a group of friends for Vivid over the weekend, and we wanted to go somewhere "quieter" to grab some dinner - it turns out the Australian wasn't much quieter than anywhere else around there, but at least we were able to get a table. There wasn't a huge variety of food on the menu, but we were told that the pizzas were great so we decided to go with pizzas. It took awhile to order the food (as you have to order at the bar, you constantly get drunk people pushing in front) but the food was brought out quickly enough and was nice and hot. I tried the pumpkin pizza & I didn't mind it, but it didn't appeal to me too much. The drinks were pretty standard prices though.

With Harts around the corner charging about $13 for a pint, and the Australian charging around the $9 mark .. there is no competition. Staff are nicer too, and more efficient (wouldn't be hard)

Easy to get a table pretty much any day bar Friday.

Pizza can seem a little pricey but the small is enough.

This is probably one of the best pubs in Sydney in my view, despite the supposed "touristy-ness", I visit repeatedly.

My husband and I had dinner and drinks here, it was great! It was pumping(even for a Thursday), so the atmosphere was lively. Pork belly pizza was delicious! Is close to other pubs so you can "crawl". Good Aussie vibe :)
