The description and reviews promised a lot for this suburban B&B but we were a bit disappointed. Accommodation in Darwin is expensive and this is no exception at $275 per night not including breakfast although Jan did give us some lovely mango from their farm. We were two family couples who stayed in the Kadek Suite and the suite is probably more suited to a family with children or a couple who want more room.
The separate double bedroom was quite comfortable, and the twin beds are in a partitioned section of the L shaped main room. The beds were very comfortable with nice linen. The fridge is large and there is ample crockery and cutlery in the room but to fill the kettle you have to go out through one of the bedrooms to either the bathroom or outside communal kitchen. Not the end of the world but one of a few little things that irritated. There is one small couch, not big enough to seat four people but a four seat table setting so you could sit down. The small TV is near the ceiling so very uncomfortable to watch but we weren't in Darwin to watch TV so no matter to us. The outdoor communal areas are pleasant - the pool looks nice, although we didn't try it, there is a BBQ, outdoor dining setting and a lounge area with a very large TV which we were invited to use. It wasn't really clear whether that was a guest area or for the owners as they seemed to use it a lot - possibly shared. Unfortunately, smokers used that area and as it was just outside one of our windows we did have some issues with cigarette smoke filtering through our open window. We did mention it to the owners and it was immediately addressed, which we appreciated.
The communal kitchen/laundry under the back porch is quite well equipped with appliances, utensils and condiments and the washing machine was very handy at a reasonable $2 per load. I do wonder about the hygiene of a single stainless steel sink which is adjacent to the washing machine, so presumable used for washing clothes, and also used for washing up.
Wifi was free and fast - a definite plus as two of us had some work to do.
The location is within a short drive of the Palmerston shopping centre with all its eating places, supermarkets and shops and it is very easy to get onto the highway into Darwin or south to Kakadu and Litchfield NPs. The street is quiet, there is onsite parking and there is nice parkland next door. Jan and Brian are very pleasant, helpful people who aim to please.
Overall, this B&B did not really suit us but could be ideal for a small family.
