The description and reviews promised a lot for this suburban B&B but we were a bit disappointed. Accommodation in Darwin is expensive and this is no exception at $275 per night not including breakfast although Jan did give us some lovely mango from their farm. We were two family couples who stayed in the Kadek Suite and the suite is probably more suited to a family with children or a couple who want more room.
The separate double bedroom was quite comfortable, and the twin beds are in a partitioned section of the L shaped main room. The beds were very comfortable with nice linen. The fridge is large and there is ample crockery and cutlery in the room but to fill the kettle you have to go out through one of the bedrooms to either the bathroom or outside communal kitchen. Not the end of the world but one of a few little things that irritated. There is one small couch, not big enough to seat four people but a four seat table setting so you could sit down. The small TV is near the ceiling so very uncomfortable to watch but we weren't in Darwin to watch TV so no matter to us. The outdoor communal areas are pleasant - the pool looks nice, although we didn't try it, there is a BBQ, outdoor dining setting and a lounge area with a very large TV which we were invited to use. It wasn't really clear whether that was a guest area or for the owners as they seemed to use it a lot - possibly shared. Unfortunately, smokers used that area and as it was just outside one of our windows we did have some issues with cigarette smoke filtering through our open window. We did mention it to the owners and it was immediately addressed, which we appreciated.
The communal kitchen/laundry under the back porch is quite well equipped with appliances, utensils and condiments and the washing machine was very handy at a reasonable $2 per load. I do wonder about the hygiene of a single stainless steel sink which is adjacent to the washing machine, so presumable used for washing clothes, and also used for washing up.
Wifi was free and fast - a definite plus as two of us had some work to do.
The location is within a short drive of the Palmerston shopping centre with all its eating places, supermarkets and shops and it is very easy to get onto the highway into Darwin or south to Kakadu and Litchfield NPs. The street is quiet, there is onsite parking and there is nice parkland next door. Jan and Brian are very pleasant, helpful people who aim to please.
Overall, this B&B did not really suit us but could be ideal for a small family.

Thankyou for taking the time to review our property and outling the high quality of our amentities and wonderful location. Our property reflects the use of outdoor spaces like "verandahs" poolside BBQ/Cooking and ultra large TV and seating areas that are reflection of how Darwinites live in a very tropical climate.

We note your recommendations and have plans submitted for renovation of a seperate laundry. We are reopening access direct to the kitchen area. This will be done in a way that minimises cooking smells into the suite which is very important to most guests in our climate.

Thankyou for noting our value as a 3.5 star property as similar accom can be seasonally more than $400.00 per night.

We hope you will return to Darwin in the future and experience our changes which you may find more suitable for your group stay.

I stayed at Jan and Brians lovely retreat recently on a trip home to see my older children whilst attending a few other appointments...I stayed there 8 days feeling truly at home, very relaxed and at peace, it has an atmosphere of being in a tropical resort but tucked away in the heart of Palmerston near the Woolworths shops at the back in Gray...Jan and Brian were away the week I was there and Harry (Jan's dad) was care taking it, who I found to b a lovely and warm person who is very funny. I felt at ease the entire time I was staying here and the closeness to the shops and the hub of Palmerston was only a bout a 10 minute walk or so...the pool was a dream to swim in with the humidity at times was warm and I felt totally relaxed and safe, as I was travelling alone...to stay here was truly a wonderful experience and very homey...I was in the Kadek suite and it was like a home away from home with everything you could think of supplied by the hosts. If I needed to go up to the shops Harry gave me a lift when I didn't have a car to use the first few days. Thank you so much for making this a wonderful experience with your awesome retreat and one I look forward to coming back and staying again on my trips home to Darwin.

Room tip: The bottom floor suite is awesome and very roomy, it is great for kids as there are no stairs to worry about and the pool is fully secured and shut...very comfortable to stay in...it's peaceful and quiet in the cul-de-sac

I must admit I was really looking forward to staying there, spent a fair bit of time checking various hotels and B&Bs in Darwin. Was aware that owners were away for fist week, no problem there. A few problems at the start, ceiling fan not working, small fridge rather noisy when compressor came on during the night but worst of all, Air Con in room turned off around 4 times a night (26 degrees min). Second week came and went and I did get a fan but my room was never refreshed, cleaned or re stocked during the whole 2 weeks. A fresh sheet would have been nice indeed.

We thankyou for taking the time to review our property. We note your stays of 4 nights and upon reading the note left in the suite we have contacted you. As a small family operated business it concerns us that your expectations were not met.

A very comfortable, even elegant, place to stay in a quiet and handy location, with very pleasant and friendly hosts. We stayed upstairs for a few nights before moving down to the larger family unit (book early!). Both 'units' were well set up, functional, clean and nicely furnished. I for one am very happy with the idea of an outside kitchen, as I really dislike the lingering odour of cooked onions or burnt toast in my bedroom or living room. This one had everything we needed and more. The pool and barbeque area were well set up and used frequently during our stay! Very little noise carried over from the other units. I can definitely imagine coming back here with family members, and using the park at the end of the driveway for the kids to burn off some excess energy. Brian and Jan were knowledgeable and friendly hosts, very obliging with help on some odd requests, and keeping the whole place clean (including linen). My only request? would be for a note posted in the shower (not next to the fridge) regarding the 'arthritis friendly taps'- turn on gently and slowly, wait for the water to run freely. Well priced and good facilities; we'll be going back for sure. Cheers Teresa

Room tip: Book early!

Went to Palmerston to visit my sister and was looking for a well-priced two bedroom apartment with facilities to prepare meals for the family. This property was everything we needed. They even supplied a highchair and port-a-cot for our 18 month old daughter at no extra cost. Jan and Brian were very welcoming, even giving our two children icecreams on arrival. Air-conditioning was excellent, particularly as it was the hot lead up to the wet season. The kids loved the swimming pool. Overall we were very happy with our stay and would recommend it to others.
