Owner description: The Deckchair Cinema is THE outdoor cinema on Darwin's Waterfront. We are a fully indepedent movie theatre operated by the Darwin Film Society, established in 1954, to give Darwin audiences unseen movies on the big screen. The Deckchair Cinema is located on Darwin's Waterfront (Jervois Road), and is open 7 nights a week from mid April to mid November. Gates open nightly at 6.30pm so you can enjoy a tropical sunset over Darwin Harbour before the 7.30pm screening. Our program is a diverse range of Australian, popular, family, foreign and classic films. Come down early, enjoy a refreshing beverage from our fully licensed kiosk or feast your taste buds on a hot meal from one of our food vendors. No BYO alcohol. We are easily accessible via a well-lit picturesque walkway from the City Esplanade and there is plenty of parking and bike racks available on site.

“Darwin Icon”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

Really worth a trip to the outdoor cinema. Cinema offers alternative movies - the only one in Darwin that does. Just sitting down on a deckchair and watching a movie, and glimpsing up at the night sky above. Has a licenced bar and offer delicious snacks at reasonable prices and staff are very helpful and friendly.

“A different experience. Remember to bring insect repellent along.”
Reviewed 14 August 2014 via mobile

Never tried watching a movie in an open air theatre before and this was my first. Had quite a bad night as I had forgotten to bring my insect repellent out. But, overall experience was great.
Some tips.....
1) Buy your tickets online to skip the queue.
2) Start queuing early so you can choose the best seat. (It is free seating in there)

“What fun!”
Reviewed 13 August 2014 via mobile

Now this idea will never take off in Hobart but for the tropics it's a winner!

A must see for anyone who loves film. The Darwin Film Society have obviously worked very hard, over a long time to get all the smallest details right so your 'experience' of the night is more than just the film.

A great fun investment for $16.
