We are currently staying at the Shady Glen Caravan Park Darwin NT. I can't understand why people give it negatives reviews. We have been here about 8 days so far. We have a lovely shady caravan site with plenty of nice green grass around. The staff have been friendly and helpful. There is plenty of room between vans. The amenities are cleaned very well daily however because the park is full they do get a bit grubby by night time. I sometimes think some people can make more of an effort to clean up after themselves.
There is some noise from the planes taking off and arriving but I personally am not affected by this. You get used to it after a while. The shop is stocked with everything you may need if you do not want to go out and find a Supermarket. The pool is great but a little small for the size of the park. They have built a lovely big dining hall and each night you can go to an all you can eat buffet for $25.00. There is a little bit of construction going on at the moment however that is well away from the caravan sites. That will all be over in a couple of weeks when the new cabins open. We have friends staying in the cabins and they are clean, modern and well maintained.
The park is close to Darwin and tour pickups and there is a bus stop outside for those who don't want to take the car. .
Overall I am enjoying my stay at this park.

We stayed in a basic studio cabin well away from highway and it was basic but extremely comfortable, clean and quiet. We were only here to use it for a base place to sleep whilst visiting family, but I don't think it would appeal as a holiday destination stop and yes the new area does look like a mining camp or detention centre. Also yes staff greeting could be a bit more welcoming or as though they care.

Had a two night stay here and was very happy to leave. Staff have poor customer service, facilities are basic and the noise from the highway, planes and renovations are loud. The park was not full but we were given a cabin next to the highway, in front of the new cabins being built (and there are many) and next to the workers rooms and a water tank. The pool is tiny for a resort this size. The sign says - please do not feed the wild life???? What wildlife? The possums that run over the roof at night or the bats that poop all over the cars?? The new development area looks like a mining workers camp- no trees and cabins very close together. What used to be a great place to stay when it was Shady Glen is now a money maker with no soul. Will not be back.

Room Tip: Stay away from the new rooms and highway rooms.

We had an eleven night stay in a superior cabin which was clean & well appointed. Although the park was conveniently located with a ten minute drive into Darwin & also a good starting point for our trips out to Kakadu & Litchfield the noise from the nearby airport was pretty annoying especially with flights coming in until 2:30am and starting again @ 5:30 am. Other than that we were happy with our stay

We stayed here for three nights in a 'Superior Studio Cabin'. The cabin appeared to be fairly new. We had a bathroom and a room that served as a living room/bedroom/kitchenette.
The bathroom was a good size with a hand wash basin, toilet and large shower.
The main room had a dining table, comfy chair, double bed, wardrobe and kitchenette with sink, microwave, large fridge/freezer and two electric rings. Crockery, cutlery and pans were provided.
There was aircon and a ceiling fan. Outside there was a small veranda with a table and chairs.
The cabin wasn't serviced in the time we were there but that wasn't a problem.
There appear to be a lot of workers living there, perhaps its cheap for them.
There is a small swimming pool by reception which in the Darwin heat looked inviting, although we didn't have time to try it out.
There is a barrier for cars which you need a code for to gain access.
Although the airport is nearby we weren't bothered by the noise. The area around our cabin was very quiet. The park is undergoing a lot of work adding more accommodation. This may have been noisy during the day but we were out all day so this didn't bother us.

Room Tip: There appears to be lots of accommodation types to suit all pockets. Go for the best you can afford!

Beware of this location, your credit card will be charged the full accommodation cost at the time of booking and refunds are not in the vocabulary of this company. The terms and conditions of this company are vague at best and are more suited to the caravan or camping clientele than to the customers that book cabin accommodation at around $150.00 per night, it would also seem management just make up the rules to suit themselves. If you need to cancel then at best your money will be held as credit towards future bookings valid for twelve months, as I do not reside in Australia this was of no use to me. After some arguing I managed to get back 75% of my booking and lost the balance being over $500.00
The manager did not even bother to phone me back in person but left the booking person to argue the point.
I would not stay with this park or this chain in the future and would advise others to be careful of dealing with this company.
For the record the booking was made on the Discovery Holiday Parks website, yes I did cancel at short notice, yes I did read the terms & conditions before booking, no I did not take out travel insurance and yes I did expect to pay a penalty for cancelling, just not $500.00
