“Okay stay - definitely good if you like it quiet”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

I stayed at Banyan View Lodge right after arriving in Australia. I had booked an ensuite single, and got a three-bed. room to myself. The cleanliness was alright, but could have better, considering the price. The furniture in the common room is quite worn down - and it is true what others reviews said, you don't meet people easily. However, the hostel IS very quiet - I booked it because of that. You'll get a good night's sleep, and if you're not a party person, this place is way better than the joints on Mitchell Street. Only real downside to me: no wifi and only two really slow terminals, that are always busy.

Stayed in a standard double room which resembled a prison cell. Basic bed and wardrobe were fine but the fridge was filthy. 2 out of 3 of the toilets on our floor were out of order with the doors hanging off! The only useable toilet door was also broken! Some showers also out of order with doors hanging off. The smell and lack of cleanliness in the toilets was disgusting! The hostel itself is just plain corridors with rooms coming off also resembling a prison. No ventilation through the corridors or toilets. Didn't dare go in the pool or spa as I'm sure both were full of germs! Not a place to meet people or socialise. The only good thing was the on site free parking! I am sure there are much better hostels in Darwin at the same price! Would not recommend!

Amazing this place must be on the demolition list. It's a I don't give a stuff reaction from staff when pointing out the toilet blockages, loo & hand paper missing and it's just so run down. I would have left but was staying with someone who raved about the place. I think this even changed their mind. Not worth it better places to stay

Still a cheap option in expensive Darwin. But really needs to be cleaned by somebody. Also the out-of-order toilets that were still being used was not a good look. Perhaps it is about to be demolished; does not look like the maintenance is predicated on it being here much longer. Some bits were good; the bedrooms. Not so the bathrooms; yuck.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room before signing in; aim for rooms at the far end of the corridors.

Found the accommodation very comfortable and the location very good. The amenities were very clean. The reception desk was excellent and very helpful. Would certainly stay there again and would recommend it to older backpackers as you are out of the busy part of Mitchell St, but an easy walk or short bus trip into the party area

Intended to stay four nights but only stayed one, 6 May 2014. The double room was satisfactory although the fridge could have been cleaner. No problem with the key deposit as many YHAs do this but the deposits for cutlery and crockery was an irritation and then in the kitchen itself there were hardly any pots and pans. No plugs in the sinks, (bathrooms as well) and no tea towels to dry up. There were paper towel dispensers in the kitchen but these were empty. Two of the three WCs in the shared facility were not working the time we were there. We moved along the road to the YHA were we got an en suite room for about 30% more than the Banyan price but well worth it. Also the YHA is closer to the town centre.

Room Tip: Go to the YHA!

this place is disgusting! The first floor bathrooms are dirty and mouldy, they supposedly clean them in the morning...they don't clean them, they spray bleach and the use a hose to hose everything down. No scrubbing, no wiping, nothing! 1 toilet was blocked for 2 days until I went up and complained, so the cleaners or management while they were hosing down the bathroom just decided to ignore the problem.
The rooms aren't made up, you check into your double room and there is a dirty bar fridge and a sheet folded up on the bed and the floor is filthy.
The kitchen was filthy. You have to rent your cutlery for $20 and you receive 1 plastic bowl, 1 plastic plate, 1 plastic cup, 1 fork, 1 butter knife and 1 spoon.
The rubbish bins out the back around the pool weren't emptied each day, so rubbish was overflowing.
I'd like to know where my $100 a night goes because it sure as hell doesn't go into repairing and cleaning the facilities.
I'm happy to stay in poor accommodation but only if the price represents where i'm staying. $100 a night for a double room in a dirty place that falling apart is ridiculous. If it was $50 a night I wouldn't be writing such a scathing review. You're better off staying in the city, same price as banyan, just as dirty but right in the heart of the city.

Room Tip: If you do stay here and you're female, request a room on the top floor...But they'll only gi...
