I booked this hostel without reading the reviews first - what a mistake.
Room was okay - beds were comfortable and safe. Had a TV and small fridge. Outside our door, however, was the communal area with loud, noisy, drunken backpackers who kept us up until all hours of the night- thankfully only me and not the children.
The toilets were okay, not smelly or dirty. The shower was fine too (as long as you closed your eyes) however as the windows were broken the people in the condo next door saw more than they bargained for :)
I had wanted a self-catering holiday and originally booked Gecko for the kitchen. Mistake! Nothing would fit in the toxic fridge, and the kitchen itself was filthy. AND no room to swing a cat.
Positives? room was okay, basic but comfortable. Ambiance of the hostel? None what so ever. Would I stay there again? Not on your life. There is a distinct lack of affordable accommodation in Darwin - we paid through the nose for this backpackers and the nice hotels would have cost us more. My advice? get a tent and stay in one of the caravan parks!More
