We parked our caravan in an unpowered site for 4 nights. The views were superb, the toilets and showers clean and adequate for the numbers of campers. There were good laundry facilities. The campground was close to the jetty for great trips to Thursday and Horn Islands (in Torres Strait). And we made a day trip to the Most northerly tip of Australia.

Spent 6 days in the lodge. Rooms were a little small but clean. Kitchen area is clean tidy.
If all the rooms were being used the kitchen area would be very cramped as there would be 12 people trying to use one 4 burner stove and one micro wave. You would have to book in times.

Close to the jetty. About one kilometre from the shop.

Be aware it is remote and basic things are expensive, particularly fuel.

The rooms would be better if they had hooks on the wall to hang towels and damp clothes. They have clothes lines but when it is raining that does not help.

Take $1 coins as the barbeque is $1 for about 15 minutes.

Room Tip: If you want to have a drink bring a carton each over from Thursday Island...a lot cheaper than Bamag...

Spent 3 days camping in a beach side hut. Price is what you would expect in a remote area. Toilets and shower pretty clean. Good location to do day trips from. The hut has a sand floor with running water power and lights. Good to set up tents in or around and to have some shelter from the heat.

I have been there twice on seperate occasion and found that the fishing here is probably one of the best landbased spots to fish in australia. I have travelled around aus for fishing and this place has to be the ultimate spot. The amount of Herring {sardines} hanging around the wharf is unbelievable and the things you see off there are incredible such as big bronzies coming 2 metres aways to attack bait and crocs under the wharf at night and across on the island. Just watch the locals and you'll see what kind of fish are being caught here. The staff at the campgrounds are very accomodating especially Clint. He will go out of his way to inform you about all the local knowledge you will need. The ameneties are very basic but that is what is expected up these neck of the woods. I certainly wasnt expecting rooms but they do have them. The camping is quite cheap at 10 dollars a night but be warned as this place can be pretty crowded at peak season. I was also there during the start of the wet season and it was completely abandoned. The lady that sells the slushies at the campsite is a godsend in this heat !
Be sure to fish the wharf as much as you can as this is definately one of the best wharf fishing spots in australia without a doubt. Especially fish sunrise as you will see some spectacular action in the water. The whole area lights up with jumping fish and bait scrambling everywhere.

Agree with everything Debdez says below. Many rooms had broken air con. The location, views and the courtyard area is really the only decent thing about it. The shared amenities were ok - although there were 4 men's showers and only 1 ladies one - however I understand that is predominantly a fishing area, so I guess that makes sense.

Wouldn't take much to bring up to standered of $$$ asked. Air conditioning in unit 5 need updating. Unit 4 not working. New pillows needed. Crockery & cutlery need to be not chipped some missing. Gas lighter not working. Soap in bath room, nice to know if it was new? No face washer at all. Loved the location. Wouldn't take much to have the cabins bought up to scratch, with the amount you ask per person per night. Would love to see these things upgraded.

We was only booked in the camp site for one night, but we ended up staying 4 nights !!!. Due to the fact the 4wd vehicle broke down twice, as we was on a 10 day Fly/Drvie with Frontier Safari / Australian Wild Escapes.. The camp site was a very welcome relief after spending hours stranded on the side of the red dusty hot road, as there was no satellie phone on board to ring for help.. There was heaps of hot water for everyone in the showers, which was lovely after a long stressful day.. The showers and toilets were cleaned to a very high standard every day, and we were very happy with this service.. There are a few shops on site which we visited many times, due to the fact we were stuck on the camp site with no transport to go very far..

We had a good camping spot - right on the beach, lovely views, great camp site !!, such a shame about the safari, The 4wd vehicle could not be repaied, so the tour ended there, and we flew back to Cairns, and as yet have no refund on the missed part of the tour..

I would recommend this camp site..
