“Not for the faint hearted but awesome”
Reviewed 7 September 2013

This was a great day for us despite the abnormally cold weather which forced my wife to pull out at lunch time (even with a wetsuit).

The guide (macca) was a crazy mofo (in a good way) and he was hilarious and certainly made the trip more exciting for us, at one point he managed to fling me from the boat much to his pleasure. If you are booking a day white water rafting and expecting a luxurious stroll down a calm stream you're an idiot. This is travelling down rapids (some a good 6-10ft in size) in an inflatable boat. Of course it's dangerous but these guys are professionals and know what they're doing. We didn't go the extreme option as my wife is a bit of a softy but even the normal version was really good fun and between the carnage of the rapids is some really picturesque scenes along the river.

We also got to see a decent sized amethystine python digesting a big meal on the side of the river and some big water spiders as well as some really cool waterfalls along the river. Lunch was pretty good too.

The only issue with this trip (aside from the weather), is the cost of the pictures. It actually worked out better for us that my wife pulled out at lunch time as she was able to take some great shots of us along the way. But otherwise the pictures are rather expensive and the system they use puts pressure on everyone to buy it. Basically it works so the more people in your raft/group that buy the pictures the cheaper they become. It is $100 for 1 flash drive with pictures then 110 for 2 120 for 3 130 for 4, etc. So if 6 people in a group buy pictures it's $150 total roughly 25 each. But if only 1 buys it's $100.

I think a much fairer system would be something like $20 if you bring your own flash drive and $40 for the company to provide one along with the pictures. This way there is no pressure on people who want or don't want the photos.

“Raging Thunder rocks rafting on the Tully”
Reviewed 13 August 2013

We rafted the Tully river in mostly pouring rain last week. I've never tried white water rafting, and at 63 was the oldest in our group. Guides, in particular Andy, were fantastic - gave us appropriate safety review, and as luck would have it, I was the first to fall out...followed the briefing instructions, and was quickly helped back into the raft.

We shared the raft with a family for whom this was their 5th rafting experience, and they rated it as their best so far.

We booked with Raging Thunder, formally known as RnR Rafting. About a 15 km run down the river, class 3-4 rapids.

It's about a 1.4 hour trip from Cairns and back, and an overall fabulous experience. They took photos along the river, which were admittedly ridiculously expensive, but we bought them to prove that Mom was not a wimp.

“Not for faint hearted”
Reviewed 17 July 2013

Along with 6 mate I went white rafting on the Tully River with Raging Thunder. We should of guessed we were in for an eventful day when we were allocated boat number 13, by the end of he day we were labelled boat number 31 because we spent so much time upside down. This excursion has had loads of bad press but it is what it says on the tin, white water rafting on a very fast flowing river. We were in a flotilla of 10 rafts and all instructors get out and do safety for the other boats in the more extreme sections. If you are a scardy cat think twice, if you like thrills have a go it gave us such a laugh and experiences we will talk about for years.

“Dangerous rafting on Tully river”
Reviewed 9 April 2013

We went rafting with raging thunder on the Tully river last march. We paid 185 dollar to go with the australian riverguide Marty. This guy liked to play with his customers. We were with 6 people in one raft. He told us he did not like boring rides on the river. Just before a rapid he told all six of us to sit on the front of the raft and toldmus to hold hands. We went down the rapid and he threw us out of the raft. My girlfriend landed underw water underneath the raft and could not reach the surface and paniced completely. I got caught in a water centrifuge underneath the rapid, allthough i had a life vest i could not reach the surface of the water. I started to get water in my lungs and thought I was going to die. We all were completly shocked by wath happened. River guide Marty said we were all softies and really did not care anything about people being scared for his way off playing with peoples lifes. I will never ever go back to a company threating his custumers like this.

“Best thing i have ever done!!”
Reviewed 28 December 2012

we did the Tully river whitewater rafting a little while ago, and i had the best time i have never done anything like this before and our guide Rod made everything fun and safe at the same time. You get a BBQ luch half way through the day and as you are in the "BUSH" what you egt is very yummy, just watch out for the gaint ants!! as for the biting flys just dont go in the season they are rife. you get your own life jacket, helmet and croc style shoes so if you lose them they will float. Be prepared to come out of the boat. the views are splended and an exprerance you will not forget in a hurry!! plus you may feel the effects for the nest few days of having a 5 hour workout but all worth it!
