“Not a Japanese restaurant. Chinese posing as japanese...and very overpriced”
Reviewed 1 January 2014

The food is not bad, but this is not an authentic japanese restaurant. All staff, from chefs to waiters are chinese. And the chef wants to be funny with his jokes, but is rude. And if you do not want to be covered in food avoid the open grill where he cooks for you. He will spry you with eggs, rice and whatever else on purpose. He probably thinks it is funny.
And if you are a lady you will find his jokes offensive.
Overall the food is good, but very very overpriced.

“Japanese in Fortitude valley”
Reviewed 13 December 2013

Its a busy Japanese restaurant 5 minutes out of the Brisbane CBD and walking distance to China town, with parking right next door.
Friendly staff ,but an ordinary Japanese restaurant , quite expensive for average Japanese fare.
The menu is extensive .
Our guests frequent Japanese restaurants and they felt that quality was not up to the prices.
we had Prawn rolls, sashimi,Beef Teriyaki,Chicken Kariaagi [ordinary]
The drinks menu was ok with fair restaurant prices. For real Japanese you can do better

“"Herro"”
Reviewed 21 August 2013

The very good food and very good service was enhanced by the chef and owner of the restaurant, Da Shan Wang, who is a culinary comedic genius!

With a large group out for a work dinner we opted for this tepanyaki place to combine a bit of entertainment with our meal. The chef was hilarious!

He was there for our entertainment but enjoyed himself, just the same. His fantastic personality was infectious and he had the whole group in stitches! Even if he had to leave us to attend the sushi bar between courses, he was still making jokes and being generally entertaining from the other side of the room. His signature catchphrase being a self-afacing to his Japanese origin, loud "herro", delivered with superb comedic timing.

Oh, and the food was delicious, best teriyaki chicken I have ever enjoyed.

“Not lost its magic”
Reviewed 21 July 2013 via mobile

Having taken teenage children there many years back, I tried the teppanyaki bench again recently, with equal enjoyment.
We sat next to another couple around the bbq arc, and a larger group joined us late. But the experienced chef juggled the food delivery sequence and service well, ensuring all had fun and a perfectly executed teppanyaki meal. The show was fun without being too intrusive, with top ingredients cooked well. Drinks were reasonably priced and service attentive.
A great place for families and groups. If you're not keen to catch your food, watch it all from a private table on your first visit.

“Excellent food and good value”
Reviewed 12 June 2013

The head man was a little pushy to begin because I think he saw a group. However, when he realized we all wanted something different and were not that hungry he backed off and created some lovely sushi for us all washed down with cold beer...I would go again.
