West End Central Apartments
Ranked #31 of 136 Speciality Lodging in Brisbane
Reviewed 17 November 2013

Stayed at Central West End apartments on Saturday 16th November. Took my daughter and a couple of friends to a concert at Exhibition and Convention Centre which was only about 10 minute walk from us.The apartment itself was quite roomy and adequate for an overnight stay. Would happily stay here for a longer period. Plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby also an IGA supermarket. Quiet and safe area. The beds were the most comfortable I have slept in for quite a while. The shower was a bit grimey which I told them when I checked out but overall it was a pleasant stay. Would stay here again if I had another concert at exhibition Centre. Didnt use the pool but it looked OK from where we were.

Room Tip: Book in advance to get the room you want.

The studio apartment we found extremely cramped, particularly when trying to prepare meals. The crockery etc is stored so high you can't see what you are trying to access, and the cutlery tray is stored so high we could hardly reach it at all so we were constantly trying to get items without them falling onto us. There was no hotplate or toaster, just a microwave. Facilities were minimal but clean. A very low budget accommodation but with plenty of eating places nearby.

Room Tip: Be aware the studio apartment is minuscule.

So this was about business. Not in the room too much. Location great with lots of food choices close by. Clean place with nice staff. The pool and gym were not acceptable when I neede them. Worthwhile for price.

The Central west end apartments are a good budget place to stay, the location is great if you want to visit Southbank, West End, QPAC etc. Lots of great restaurants, bars and cafes within walking distance. The room itself was neat, clean and tidy. Yes it's starting to show signs of age, but for the price it's hard to go wrong here.

I Decided to take my elderly Mother on a short trip to Brisbane recently and chose these apartments for the fact they had two seperate Bedrooms. We stayed four nights. I can't remember what the actual name of the room was called but was quite impressed by the ammenities. The kitchen contained all that many consider essentials. The bathroom included a washing machine and Dryer and was very clean. The lounge room was very nice with nice chairs and lounge and dining table. We also had a balcony with a table and chairs. I did find it difficult to locate at first things such as pots and pans etc. They did give you a small supply of dishwashing liquid and washing detergent etc. I didn't have much dealing with the staff only at our arrival and departure. The staff were quite friendly, and seemed they would be helpful if required. It was our first time to Brisbane so it helped to have nice accomodation. The apartments are very handy to public transport to Brisbane city and in reasonable walking distance if you prefer to walk. There were quite nice views of the surrounding area also

We have been staying here once a year few years now but if it wasn't for the location, we'd probably try something else. This place is getting a bit tired - my shower head connection completely blew off from the water pressure on the Friday night and as it was coming up to a week-end, nothing could be done to rectify it until Monday. Luckily we were in a 2 bedroom apartment or else we wouldn't have been able to shower. The layout of the kitchen - lounge has not had any thought put into it. If you are cooking/washing dishes you can't watch the TV. Likewise, the fridge door opens the wrong way to be totally serviceable, but I'm just nitpicking. However as we travel a lot for business it's these little things that impress us as it shows thought has gone into making a place a "home away from home".
Also, don't expect a sleep-in. There is a massive building site at the back of the apartment block where construction works commence at 6:30am and don't stop until 6:30pm six days a week. This means you can't leave the balcony door open for very long as everything gets covered with a fine dust and the noise is horrendous. Luckily we were out for most of the day but we would have appreciated a bit of a lie-in.

These apartments are in a great location and the one we had was more than big enough for 3 adults and our two children. Unfortunately that's all they have going for them... We had a couple of special requests (extra bed, late check-in) and we made a number of attempts to contact reception prior to arriving, and no one got back to us. We were in one of the rooms that is not refurbished and even though it was clean everything looked very shabby. One of the lifts was making a terrible noise all day and despite repeated requests to shut it down, they didn't respond until 9pm. It was then out of order for 3 days! The service wasn't great, a bit impersonal and rude but if you don't mind that then it's not a bad place to base yourself for a few days.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the refurbished rooms away from Melbourne St as it can be quite noisy on that side of...
