“Great getaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2014

My husband & I stayed here for a treat night away from our 18 month old & LOVED it. Rooms are not huge, however well decorated and the bed is very comfortable. As the restaurant is close to the upstairs rooms, it is a little noisy during the day & early evening. However, after 10pm they close the fire doors & you don't hear anything until around 8/8:30am when they reopen them. The location is great, walking distance to the hub of New Farm & the Valley, without the street noise of the Main Street. Recommend this hotel for a couples looking for nice Bris getaway,

LikesQuality101,

It's always a treat to get away for the night, we are lucky enough to have such a great location close to the City and Fortitude Valley. I do apolgize if you found the room noisy in the early evening we are always happy to shut the doors if needed.

We look forward to wlecoming you andyour partner back soon.

Kind Regards

Sam

Many locals don't even know this is here, but I have been visiting Brisbane for business and pleasure for 15 years and I think this is the best place to stay by far. We had a work function there on a Tuesday night for 30 people, and they handled it really well (brining it inside to the charming library at short notice from the pretty courtyard - rain). The bedrooms are quiet and dark, allowing for a great sleep, and the restaurant food is delicious and average price for this quality, which is among the best in Bris. Staff all helpful, and wine list is superior. (I don't even think there was a Penfolds in sight; what a revelation - no offence to Penfolds)! There are also the little touches such as a brownie on the pillow with evening turn down, reminiscent of say the Mandarin in HK. Certainly a cut above the other bland Brisbane offerings. Also, the fully stocked honesty bar upstairs is a great breath of fresh air. Fantastic idea. Imagine a hotel actually trusting their guests!

This hotel has amazing service and the facilities are clean and the decorations were unique and fabulous! It’s on a quiet street surrounded by houses, and it is walking distance to a ferry terminal if you want to do a river tour. The hotel is very boutiquey and the staff makes you feel right at home by offering to help constantly and by knowing your names (all of them knew us by name when we arrived!). I had contacted the manager about my strict gluten free diet (Celiac disease) before arriving and he was helpful and assuring during the entire process. As soon as we arrived, Luke introduced himself and knew us by name, AND he had directions for our tour that day. We arrived early in the morning before check-in and he let us use a room to shower and change until our room was ready. He brought me upstairs to talk to the chef (Maria), who was extremely helpful and comforting in explaining all of the precautions she would take to avoid cross contamination and safely prepare my gluten free meals. We had a tour that day and she made me a boxed lunch, too! I brought pancake mix from home and gave it to her the first day, and she used it every morning to make me a hot breakfast (which is often hard to come by for a Celiac)! They have an awesome bar that feels like a reading room with fun books and seating, and they made us gluten-free appetizers every day. One night, all of my options for gluten free meals in town were closed and Maria went out of her way and schedule to make us a special and delicious dinner. Definitely a repeat if we return to Brisbane!

I've stayed at Spicers Bslfour on several occasions, this time with family occupying three of the nine rooms. As always, Spicers Balfour did not disappoint from check in (always friendly), to providing a fruit platter after the kitchen had closed for three of our late arrivals and of-course the sensational breakfast on the verandah.
This time I stayed in the terrace suite and I must say, it will be hard going back to the other rooms. The large terrace off the bedrooms gives a sense if space and let's more light in. The darkness of the rooms is the only negative about this boutique hotel. It does encourage you though to get out early in the morning to walk along the Brisbane River or around the cafés and shops of New Farm.
