“Astonished...and not in a good way!”
Reviewed 28 March 2014

We live on the Gold Coast and often stay the night in Brisbane and South Bank. For some reason we didn't spot the Surf club on previous occasions, however walking along deciding where to eat there it was... appearing out of nowhere: )

We were shown a table upstairs overlooking the market and were quite delighted. The club was packed which was to be expected on a Sunday afternoon, with a buzzing atmosphere.

We were eventually served, approximately eight minutes after sitting down and ordered the sourdough bread with balsamic and oil dressing $8. 50 and fish and chips, we requested the bread first, and waited another 15 minutes for this to arrive. We were served four slices of sour dough bread and a minuscule amount of balsamic oil dip ( tiny) we had dipped probably one piece of bread and decided to request some more dip, we were told yes we could have some more but we would need to pay another $3.00. On principle we explained to the waiter we thought it was unreasonable to serve up four dry pieces of sour dough bread with such a small dip as no matter how careful we were using the dip it was only enough for one piece of bread, he replied well this is the rule of the restaurant as most people request more dip!
Why not take on board the feed back!?

We cancelled the fish and chips and left, so I can't comment on the main meal, just despise getting ripped off!

“lunch at Southbank”
Reviewed 1 March 2014

Took an overseas friend for lunch after collecting her from the airport, and had the best steak sandwich ever! Very friendly service and lovely surroundings. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for; quality.

“Great location”
Reviewed 11 February 2014

This has a great location and will pick up lots of new, passing trade. This is a good thing because I'm not sure how many would return!
Just over half the tables were occupied, but there were too few staff and there were long waits to get the menus, then the drinks and later the food. The fish was seriously over-cooked, it was like fishy cardboard in a mass of crispy batter.
Enjoy the location, have a beer and watch the world go by, but don't bother with the food.

“great spot for lunch”
Reviewed 4 January 2014

me and my wife were in the surf club for lunch on friday, and the food was beautiful, i had the crab sandwich which was awesome, the only disapointment was the crisps that came with it, it should be chips!!! my wife had the fish and chips and the fish was lovely. Our waitress was outstanding, every time my water was low it was topped up, and the manager gave us a great table and he recommended a great wine for us both to share. well done south bank surf club!!

“Meh”
Reviewed 1 January 2014

It was a last minute decision to eat here. It wasn't too busy. Everything was OK. Service was good but not great. Waitstaff need to be flagged down, not very proactive. Food was tasty but servings were small. All in all it was average.
