“Excellent trip”
Reviewed 23 March 2014 via mobile

The crew were amazing and that started from boarding to when we left the cruise on our return to Brisbane.

The added bonus was just turn up and get your ticket on board without having to waste time booking in advance.

The cruise to Lone Pine and it is certainly the way to do it, with a nice relaxing cruise along the Brisbane river with a funny and informative commentary on the places we were passing and seeing.

TIP: They serve food and drink on board and we decided to have that on our return and see more of Lone Pine than waste time eating in the park and what a wise choice it was,the food served was excellent and good value for money.

Having read other reviews of the trip, we wondered if 2.5 hours would be enough time but we saw everything we wanted to see easily and that included my partner photographing anything that moved while we were there, as it states on the website there are various options if people want more time in the park.

“Nice Staff, Relaxing Cruise”
Reviewed 16 March 2014

We bought a 3-choice Brisbane iVenture flex card from the Visitor Center for $70 AUD and thought it was a great deal by using it for this Lone Pine Mirimar Cruise, the Lone Pine Sanctuary Entrance, and the hop-on/ hop-off bus.

For use with our card, you don't make a reservation and just show-up. The boat arrived on time and let everyone on-board quickly. They have an interior seating area with a little food bar with snacks (reasonable prices) and free sun-block. They have an outdoor seating area that is probably about 1/2 covered (important in Australia!) and the rest open air. Bathrooms were available and fine.

Unfortunately, we departed about 10 minutes late as the boat was held for customers that were slow in walking to get in board....not a huge deal, but it did cut about 10% of our time off that we would have had in Lone Pine.

The crew were very nice and friendly, the cruise was nice and relaxing, and they had moderately interesting commentary that occasionally played on the way there (none on the way back).

Overall a great way to do Lone Pine but would be nice if they would extend the time in Lone Pine to a full 3 hours (see my review at that location) and enforce the on-time departure requirement.

Great to hear you enjoyed our Tour with Mirimar Cruises and thank you for your lovely comments about our staff. I would like to clarify that if we do leave a little late, we do our best to still arrive at the scheduled time of 11.15am. In regards to the time allocated to spend at the park; we have conducted ample surveys and the majority of feedback we receive from our guests is that 2.5 hours at the Sanctuary is ample time to explore the park. For those guests who would like a longer time in the park they have the option of taking a bus back to the city. Regards Debbie

“great tour”
Reviewed 24 February 2014

This is the way to see the Lone Pine Koala Park ( also highly recommend) . Board cruise on South bank ( new location) and have a taped narrative ( funny and informative) of the river cruise up to the Lone pine Koala sanctuary . Very nice cruise and just about the right amount of time at the sanctuary.
Tip - Instead of eating lunch at the park - spend your time seeing the animals and get a sandwich etc./drink on the boat for the cruise back.

“Wonderful trip!”
Reviewed 23 February 2014 via mobile

I took the Mirimar cruise from Brisbane up to the Lone Pine Koala sanctuary and had such a wonderful time. The river gives beautiful views and there was a fascinating commentary with good old Aussie music along the way. Staff on board were very amiable and the cafe was rather nice. Hot chocolate in a mug on the deck of a boat, you can't go wrong. It was a real hassle-free way of getting to and from Lone Pine.
The sanctuary itself is ever so sweet and I did find that I had plenty of time there - don't miss out on seeing the koalas which live around the patio of the cafe, I spent ages watching them. There are, rather unsurprisingly, loads of koalas here and you can get up quite close to take good pics. You can have a photo holding one too which I would recommend in that you can't do this in Victoria or New South Wales, it's not legal. They had loads of koalas on a generous rotation doing this so you won't feel guilty! The keepers are totally dedicated to their animals well-being and they are all well looked-after.
All in all I would certainly recommend this day trip, it turned out to be one of my favourite days in Oz.

“A Good Day Well Spent”
Reviewed 24 January 2014

We had only one day to spend in Brisbane, and I am glad we spent it taking the Mirimar River Cruise to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary.

The tour departs from South Bank Parkland in the heart of the city, which is easy to locate and get to. We took the River Cat ferry right from our hotel. The Mirimar Cruise departs at 10:00 a.m. and we arrived at 9:30 ... to find nothing! But the boat soon arrived so our fear of being at the wrong place quickly vanished. Your one-fare pays for both the river cruise and the koala sanctuary.

As you take the one hour ride up river a narrated tour explains quite a bit about the Brisbane scenery about you. Fortunately, even though it is mostly a recorded narration, it is done in segments so the pilot keeps it synchronized with where you actually are in the river. Also, it contains current information, so they must keep it up to date. Finally, the pilot does take the mike and chime in at times. We enjoy learning about the history of an area with this kind of cruise ... even the hammed-up jokes.

The boat has a full cafe so if you want something to eat or a beverage to drink they are available (not included in your fare). Also, there is a complimentary serving of sun screen. Use it generously; it was bright, hot and sunny the day we took the trip.

I was surprise to learn this tour has operated since 1930. The Mirimar 2 boat replaced the earlier Mirimar, which served for 75 years.

If your time is short in Brisbane, you'll definitely want to see the koala sanctuary and the Mirimar River Cruise is not only a good way to get there -- it adds in its own style of fun on the way!
