“below average and highly expensive - not worth it at all”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 February 2010

stayed here for 4 nights for business. for how much they were charging per night (AUD$280) i was absolutely shocked and disappointed at how below average this hotel was.

The bad: this hotel was just average or less than average. it is not what i would expect from a 5 star business hotel. the rooms were just not special, the bed and sheets were average, the pillows sucked. room service food was awful - what you would expect from a 3 star hotel. the whole thing was just so sub par. it was definitely a 3 star hotel experience, but they charged SO MUCH - as much as a top end 5 start hotel. so that was extremely disappointing. this experience reminded me why i never stay at marriotts, their brand is so bad compared to hilton, hyatt, swissotel etc - the hotel quality is always poor yet they charge the same as their competitors who have a much better product.

I would not stay at Marriott Brisbane again unless they cut their rates by half.

we eventually ended up changing hotels and moved to The Emporium which was a beautiful botique hotel. the price for the rooms was the same, but it was double the quality of Marriott.

The good: the location is right in the middle of the CBD near the river and this is about the only good thing about this hotel. which is probably why they are charging SO much for such an average hotel.

We stayed for 3 nights at the Marriot during our honeymoon in Brisbane. The hotel and the room were of very good standard. The location is also great for exploring Brisbane. One thing to positively point out is the concierge service. David was exceptionally friendly and heplful advising us on good restaurants to go to and must see places! The only negative would be that parking was rather expensive as there is only valet service and not hotel car park.

Not overdone or stiff. Just balanced and good, like when at home. Made me feel comfortable to be there.

This is the fourth time I've stayed at the Brisbane Marriot on a business trip and as always the service was good and the room lovely. The rooms are well appointed, comfortable, very clean and have a touch of luxury to them. The buffet breakfast has lot's to offer and the wait staff are attentive. One of this hotel's best feature's though is it's proximity to the river. It's a very easy five minute walk straight to some great restaurants along the river, which is perfect when entertaining for business.

To keep it short the hotel was good. We had a nice river view room at a decent price (Approx 250 Australian / night). It is in a nice area with a lot within walking distance. I would have recommended this hotel if it was not for all the charges that Marriott are applying:
Internet: 20 Australian dollars / 24 hr
Room service: Expensive + "delivery fee" (Ok, this was written in the menu, but it was still a huge hourly rate for having someone use the elevators inside the hotel..)
What really, really annoyed me though was the 1.5% extra that they wanted to charge me for paying with a credit card. It was not mentioned at booking, in price comparisons and I have never before seen that at a hotel. To me this is just a stupid attempt to have the customers pay more (who pays cash at hotels??).

Nice hotel - but all the attempts to get more money out of us makes Marriott a hotel chain that I will stay away from.

I stayed at the Marriot for a small getaway, and it was fantastic. The service was amazing, the room very comfortable, and the meals were decadent. I also had a spa treatment, and that was wonderful. I would definately reccommend this hotel to others..

I'm a platinum Marriott Rewards member, stayed hundreds of nights at Marriotts and other hotels all over the world, and our stay at the Brisbane Marriott is easily in my top 3 best hotel experiences ever. It was that good.
We arrived at the hotel at 8am after an overnight flight from LAX. Check in was a breeze, staff had our room ready and we were put on the concierge level. They told us that if we were hungry we could go up to the lounge and get breakfast. They then told us they would send up a complimentary plate of wine, cheese, and fruit at a time of our choosing. The staff was this attentive and accomodating for our whole stay.
Within 20 minutes we were fed and in our room, and we took a much needed nap. We stayed for three nights and I don't have a single complaint. The room was immaculate, and was kept that way. We left tip money out for the cleaning staff and THEY LEFT THE MONEY ON THE DESK (we were told by the front desk that its a cultural thing, Aussies dont tip the cleaning crew), so we left a note for them the next day that the tip was indeed for them.
The bed was a pillow top and we slept soundly. The room was quiet, and had a nice view of the river and several city bridges. Television was nice, although sometimes it seemed like nothing but rugby was on (another cultural difference). Downtown, the river, and several parks were within walking distance of the hotel. There is a great riverside path in Brisbane that goes for miles if you like walking. Car rental services were conveniently on-site and the prices were competitive with what we found on the internet, so we rented with them for a day-trip to Lamington National Park.
Concierge level had two computers with free internet access. Just an FYI, the concierge level upgrade is a Marriott Rewards member extra, so non-members might not get it.
