The Good:
- Excellent location
- Newly renovated
- Fairly quiet
- Mostly good staff
- Was automatically made a member of Accor hotels (yeah, not fussed either way), but I did get a $10 buffet breakfast voucher for it.

The Not So Good:
- I got stuck in a room with an adjoining door and although I didn't have neighbours for the first two nights when I did end up with neighbours you realised how incredibly easily sound travels through that door. (To be fair the neighbours weren't particularly loud).
- The hot water in the shower continually oscillated between lukewarm and cold.
- No shower door and placement of the toilet (hence loo paper), right next to the shower.
- Those clock radios are a the equivalent of a desk lamp. As another reviewer mentioned, I also had to cover both the front and side of the radio to block out the light (I like a dark room).
- The room keys only allow access to your floor however the stairs are easily accessible to walk from level to level. Seems kind of pointless to restrict floors by key when you can climb the stairs anyway. (I discovered this when I had to meet a colleague in her room and was forced to walk up four flights of stairs to get there).
- The restaurant is buffet only for breakfast. I have a medical condition that means I am unable to eat large meals at a time, if it weren't for the fact that I received a $10 voucher for the buffet upon check in I would have been left paying $26 for a slice of toast and spoonful of scrambled egg.

Overall I lucked out in a few areas -
Lousy shower temperature
Crappy view of the city
Adjoining door room

Probably one of the worst rooms you can get. My colleagues who had the river view rooms (and hot showers) had a much nicer experience.

Room Tip: Go for the riverview and make sure you don't get a room with adjoining doors.

Just a perfect location in the heart of the city. 5 mins walk to the Central Station that can get you to the airport in less then 10mins, 3 mins walking distance to the heart of the city.

The hotel is at times very peacful especially when you are staying up the top floors..

Quiet room, clean bathroom. Disappointed that shampoo / conditioner was of such poor quality and no complimentary moisturiser. Wifi and parking were outrageously expensive! Breakfasts were great. Restaurant ok.

Nothing really special. The rooms were clean & house keeping excellent. Standard room has shower only. Interesting cupboard - so enough space, toiletries made in China and not really nice- small, noisy hair dryer but I got a good deal so for $110 per night it was fine. Reception and front desk needs work - staff forgot request. The trainee and I know they are a trainee but they didn't understand English so I had to repeat 3x! She also forgot to get back to me about late check out, their check out is 10:30 am which is painful on the weekend. Location great, two blocks from central. The guy who checked in also didn't get back to me about Accor club so it seems that staff service level varies. The lady at executive club Annie? Was excellent, the female concierge also good and the guys who were porters always had friendly face. I actually checked out ahead because there wasn't much to do. Gym on 16 th floor good with outside swimming pool. Food in hotel cafe below par - much better outside.

Room Tip: If noise sensitive don't get the ann st side, you can still hear the clock tower.

I wanted to stay five star on the long weekend but wife convinced me that this would be good enough at a much better price. She was right. Feels nice and new. Great efficient check in. Huge flat screen tv. Very swish bathroom. Good room service. The only negatives would be the views of the river which are really views of the motorway, vacuuming in the hall at 0930h, and you have to have a full buffet breakfast in the restaurant. Would have liked a continental at a reasonable price. And, when are pricey hotels going to start offering complimentary wifi like any decent backpacker does? It's such a rip off!

Stayed here for 6 nights whilst in Brisbane with The Barmy Army for the first Ashes test, Nov 13.

Having spent our first 3 nights in town in a self-catering serviced apartment, this was like moving into a rabbit hutch. The room was small and dark with stunning views over ..... a corrugated iron rooftop, although the bathroom was lovely . We had minor "issues" on pretty much every day of our stay - the fridge in the room kept getting locked by the housekeeping staff for no particular reason other than to stop us putting stuff in it (churlish as best!), towels not replaced a couple of days despite us asking for them to be changed, bed remained unmade ..... little things, but over a 6 day period, they mounted up. Oh, and not a lot of storage space for suitcase - I guess they cater mainly for the 1-night business trip market rather than the tourist market.

The roof-top pool was freezing - something I didn't expect in Australia!

On our last night and after a very long day out, we decided to eat in the hotel restaurant, and to be fair, it was a fabulous meal - probably one of the best steaks I've ever had and reasonably priced.

I think the hotel needs to "warm up" a bit. The Reception area is very barren, a little too corporate for my liking. I've made a point of never using Mercure Hotels in the UK for this very reason and the Brisbane Mercure certainly reinforced this. Had it not been the hotel of choice for The Barmy Army, there's no way I'd have chosen to stay here. Sorry.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view - not a corrugated rooftop!
