“I will consider my next stay in Hilton Hotel it’s just 2 AUD more per night”
Reviewed 8 April 2009

Good hotel really close to Q-Rail Link Central station just 2 min walk.
Advantages – modern style, free internet in the lobby, nice smiling and helpful staff, good satellite TV programs with ppv choice /15 AUD for a movie/ on a LCD-TV, nice and clean outdoor swimming pool but not many chaise-lounges.
Disadvantages – Housekeeping clean and make the room but forget to change towels /3 of 6 days/, expensive restaurant especially for breakfast – not worth it, the air-condition is weak – I stayed in fall and felt hot. It couldn’t get 23C at night and outside was 27C during the day. In my opinion that is because when you leave the room you have to take your security key-card and actually it’s the main electricity key for the room so you basically turn off the AC – no power-no AC. When we came back the room was like preheated stove oven. On the 2nd day we just left my wife’s key-card in the power-control slot till the rest of our stay. Not very close to the best parts of the City - Mayer Centre and South Bank, walking in a hot day may exhaust you.
I will consider my next stay in Hilton Hotel it’s just 2 AUD more expensive than Novotel Brisbane per night.

probably the worst night's sleep I had in Australia due to the overheated room - the aircon thermostat malfunctioned. Room also very bare and formulaic - cheap feel, but it did have a kettle and fridge, which was good.
Food was ok but breakfast good.

One midweek night in the novotel on an advantage plus free night redemption. Good hotel, overcluttered room, restaurant not really up to the mark.

Check in and check out courteous and pleasant. Stayed in an ordinary room which was reasonably big, pity it was cluttered with queen beds and had only one lounge chair. (compare my review of mercure room previous night, which was tireder, cheaper but the room was a lot more usable even though smaller) The room had a reasonable sized desk, good condition fittings, and excellent lighting.

There was a nondescript 'glimpses' view from the window (see pic)

For a 4 star hotel it was a reasonable bathroom (again pretty new) but there was a big step into showerbath

It was the Cilanto restaurant that was a curates egg. This place has tickets on itself for no good reason. There was mostly good service there, except at the edges, we saw the man in the corner complaining because he was simply missed in the rush - restaurant was pretty busy. 3 of 4 waitstaff knew what they were doing. The fourth had no idea about anything and this also kept the others on their toes watching out for him.

Our meals featured - dish 1 - great succulent moreton bay bugs (shellfish) - dish 2 was absolutely terrible lamb - gristle right through it and probably the worst lamb cut I've ever tried. Not good enough when the serve is small and cuisine minceur style - you'd expect pretty good from your tiny cut. They had a new menu only a few days old so that may explain something - but not the butcher who should be hung at dawn.

The breakfast buffet featured nice silver service tureens with inside them a very limited american breakfast selection and extended supply delays in refilling them. Again not up to par.

stayed two nights
a good walk to the shops as it's on the top of the hill near the station
the staff were friendly and helpful .
the room was very clean and spacious the bed i thought very big and comfy
the only thing that i thought that let the hotel down was the breakfast .
it was disgusting .
ok if you only eat bread and fruit
the second day we went round the corner to a cafe and had a superb breakfast
all in all a nice hotel and i would stay there again

I use this hotel every time I am in Brisbane for business. got everything I want and walking distance to the CBD. Lots of underground parking, nice fitness centre, rooms are clean and appropriate with nice LCD TVs. Good quality buffet breakfast.

  • Liked — Whole package and really efficient
  • Disliked — Room service menu should offer more dishes from their restaurant.

If I had to describe the Novotel in one word I would use 'efficient.' It wasn't fancy and it wasn't flash, but it is reliable and efficient.

Positives:
- Fast, clean check-in
- Easy to find room
- Quick room service.
- Clean room

Negatives:
- Bare, basic room
- Dull menu
- A little impersonal service from staff

Will stay again, however, as I like a simple fuss-free experience.

We stayed 2 nights at the Novotel in Brisbane. This was our last of five stays in Australia over 2 weeks. Our first and lasting impression of our room was that it was compact and everything inside was squashed together. This peeved me greatly because we had reserved a "Superior" room. Also, there wasn't one queen or king bed - but rather two separate double beds. Upon leaving for the airport after our second night I ripped open the left side of my shorts when walking past the T.V. stand. There was only 18" of clearance between the bed and the stand and my shorts caught a handle that was sticking out. Thankfully my leg wasn't cut open.

  • Liked — Soft bed and soft pillow.
  • Disliked — Compact/tiny "Superior" room.
