“Love staying at Royal Albert”
Reviewed 8 February 2013

A lovely Boutique hotel walking distance to Queen Street Mall in the City of Brisbane. Walked to see "South Pacific" at Qpac, Southbank, walked to the Casino, looked around the shops and came back to a beautiful self-contained large 1 bedroom suite. Very clean with a fantastic bed and had everything you would need. We stayed a night, but would love to stay three or four. Beautiful traditional decor, very comfortable for Business trip and also a great couples getaway. Lovely
Italian restaurant downstairs, watching everyone heading were they have to go.

Room Tip: It didn't have much of a view, but we did not mind the drapes and furniture where lovely

Dear Alicia
Thank you for your great comments about our décor and cleanliness!
This is the secret! We are so central you can walk everywhere. Next time you could allow a day to walk down to the Botanical Gardens, across the Goodwill Bridge, lose yourself in Southbank for a couple of hours and head back, either via the Victoria Bridge and the Mall, or the Tank St (Kurilpa) Bridge and the Roma Street Parklands. There is a lot to do in Brisbane for 3-4 days. You are a local so keep in mind that we generally discount our rates in January.

I've stayed here heaps of times for work and I bring my colleagues here as well. The rooms are massive and the decoration is a bit old fashioned which is nice. Room amenities include microwave, small stove, washer, dryer fridge, lounge, table, desk. The check in in staff are friendly and when I mentioned if they had stopped the welcome cookies in the room the check in staff said no.... and when I came back in the afternoon there were two waiting for me which was nice. They have a charge back arrangement with the restaurant at the entrance but I haven't used it.

Would suggest that the elevators need a refurb, The carpet is a bit threadbare and the walls are all scrathed up and not looking the best which brings it down a bit.

But it is my hotel of choice in Brisbane and good value.

Middle of CBD and just a quick walk to everywhere.

Dear Shintri
Thank you for your great comments and for promoting us to your friends and colleagues!
We appreciate your comments about our massive room size and know that it is hard to find spacious hotel rooms in a capital city.
I will compliment my staff about replenishing the missing cookies without being asked. This is the level of service that we believe should be second nature.

We totally agree with your comments about the interior of the lifts.
NEWSFLASH!
We are delighted to announce that we have approval for two brand new lifts. An order has been placed with ThyssenKrupp and the installation of the new lifts is scheduled to commence in September and be complete by mid November 2013. When complete, the interiors will mirror the décor of the foyer. Of course, they will also include new motors and controllers. The brass doors (which are showing their age) will be replaced with gold stainless.

The check in and room were reasonable, very big, nice high celling was awesome and everything worked.

However, bathroom and room are quite outdated I enjoy older style furnishings but some were tatty, equipment is cheap and budget and needs to be replaced, eg the hair dryer was definitely one of the first of its kind!

The service was average in the morning a smile goes along way.

The largest issue was a $200 pre authorisation on our card which is not needed at the Hilton but apparently here they value their rooms at a higher level or do not value their customers. Either or it doesn't not matter, it is an unwanted inconvenience that tarnished our stay...will not be returning.

What a delight to find this wonderful place. Great location right downtown; very friendly and helpful staff; and large comfy rooms

The only very minor complaint is that the lifts feel very tired, and there wasnt free wifi

My husband and I walked into our 1 bedroom suite at the Royal Albert and immediately wished we were staying for a week! It was massive! Modern kitchen, gorgeous old-styled, ornate living area and finishing touches. Water pressure was great, which is always a bonus at a hotel and water was HOT. This hotel is in a fantastic location, caddy corner to the Myer center. Honestly could not have asked for a handier location to shopping & train. We were welcomed warmly by staff, valet parking on site. Honestly can't fault anything with our stay. Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: It was only $10 more for a 1 bdroom suite, highly recommend!

Dear Aroha
Thank you for your great comments!
Of course I agree with everything you say! We are just across the road from the Myer Centre and the Queen Street Mall. I am pleased that you noticed the gorgeous old-styled ornate living area and the finishing touches.
I look forward to welcoming you again.

We stayed here for a romantic couple of days in Brisbane CBD. The room was nicely appointed, clean and reasonably quiet even though we were on the western side above the street. The double glazing made a difference. It is in a great position directly across the road from the myer center. There is plenty off street parking for a fee. The one bedroom suites have a kitchen with all facilities, and laundry with iron and ironing boards and a nice marble bathroom. The air conditioning was whisper quiet. The rooms also have LCD TV and DVD player and cable. The water pressure in the shower was the best we have ever had, it was like a massage.

Room Tip: The rooms on the eastern side are a little quieter.

Poor customer service, never have I encountered such poor customer service in 30 years of travelling. Initially we thought the location is central and perfect for a weekend getaway with my wife, turns out not only are we greeted with attitude from front desk staff, follow by room amenities either used or reuse, door knocks in wee hours of the morning. My genuine opinion is that I would not recommend this to anyone.

This guest did suffer some delays on checking in. This was due to the guest not having photo ID which is a WOTIF requirement, then when the guest produced photo ID it was in a different name to the WOTIF booking. We assisted as much as possible, even suggesting that the guest contact WOTIF to amend the name that the booking was in.
While this was being sorted out, the guest was swearing and highly critical of the hotel whilst on the phone in the middle of the hotel foyer. Our staff resolved this as efficiently and professionally as they were able.
The door knocking was from another guest who had their peace and quiet disturbed as this room was having an unauthorised hen’s night with a stripper who was getting changed in the hallway. Fortunately we have lift security so that guests only have access to the floor that their room is on.
WE are very honoured to have so many high reviews on Tripadvisor and trust that perceptive travellers will see the single review from this reviewer for what it is – very economical with the truth!
