“Renovated room, good service, good location”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

Visited this hotel for business in April 2014. Decided to try a different hotel this time.
On arrival the outside of the hotel is a throwback from the 70's. The outside is a bit dated and the foyer was no different. Staff were very pleasant and could help enough. I was a little apprehensive given the decor but ventured up to the room nonetheless.
On exiting the lift it was a nice surprise. The foyer and rooms had been renovated - bathroom could do with a spruce up but still very clean and functional. They were very pleasant. I had room service which was better than most and the free wifi was a bonus (I still don't understand why hotels in Australia charge exorbitant fees for internet use - but this hotel knows the value of the internet to customers..well done).
Hotel was in the middle of the CBD with nice view over the gardens. Very happy with the place and would stay again.
nb. strange buzzing sound coming from the room next door in the morning. Don't know what it was (could have been a guest doing strange things?!? :-) ) but didn't bother my sleep.

Room Tip: I'd guess that the rooms overlooking the park would be quieter.

Dear David_Susie
Thank you for your feedback after your recent stay. I am glad that you took this opportunity to try the Royal for the first time. The hotel celebrated its 45 year anniversary last month and great care has been taken to maintain the classic style of the hotel whilst adding modern touches. During the last refurbishment we restored the walnut panelling in the lobby and added leather armchairs and sofas to the bar as well as giving complimentary wifi with no download limits. We boast a fantastic location opposite the Botanic Gardens and the Park View rooms offer an inspiring view to start or end each day.
Kind Regards
Dale John

Only stayed at this hotel for 2 nights whilst passing through Brisbane but would certainly recommend this hotel. Lovely rooms, nice pool and opposite the botanical gardens which are beautiful. Very central location. Although parking was $26 a night, don't think u should have to pay for hotel parking when yr a guest. So if yr in Brisbane wouldn't hesitate to tell u to stay here.

Room Tip: Front of hotel overlooking the botanical gardens

Dear charliemo
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback after your recent stay. It was pleasing to read how much you enjoyed our convenient location and the service from our team. The swimming pool and spa are located outside surrounded by palm trees and grass to form an oasis in the heart of the city. Our parking rates are $28 per night for self parking and this is in line with our hotels in the CBD and in most cases, cheaper.
Kind Regards

This hotel is very dated in regard to the rooms. The linen is nice and the rooms are well presented on first impressions, but the bathrooms are old and tired as is much of the furniture. The common areas including the bar and restaurant were very nice. The food in the restaurant is spectacular.

The service is six star quality. The hotel decor itself (in the rooms) is probably closer to 3 or 3.5 stars (although common areas are very nice). But it's the best service. Nothing was too hard. Everyone was smiling. Everyone actually wanted to help. I'd happily go back just to be in contact with these fabulous people.

On the downside, I was there for business and the rooms aren't really set up for it. The desk is shoved in the corner with not much space, and the power points are hard to access behind a rise in the buffet table that holds the TV. They do have a couple of power points on an extension cord on the desk but there are only two (because a third one was in use by the TV). Once you plug in a mobile phone and a laptop, you have to start moving furniture or unplugging lamps to plug in your iPad/tablet, camera battery etc. A photo is attached to explain further. A small thing but a bit annoying over a few days.

I do think it could have been cleaner. The main areas of the hotel were pristine but my room didn't sparkle. The tiles in the bathroom could have been cleaner as could the carpets in the rooms. It wasn't gross. It was average.

Dear Kim F
I appreciate you taking the time to share your review. I was pleased to read how much you enjoyed the service provided by the entire team during your stay. We strive to make each interaction memorable with a minimum of fuss and as you correctly stated, no request is too difficult. Our chefs are constantly trying ways of improving our menu sourcing local, fresh ingredients and blending traditional dishes with modern touches. I apologise that the cleanliness of your room was not up to our usual standards. The Housekeeping Manager is investigating this matter as our rooms normally sparkle as much as our public areas. We look forward to your next stay as it will be a chance to impress you once again.
Kind Regards

Fabulous location opposite the Botanical Gardens. Clean, large room with modern facilities. Buses stop right out the front. Undercover parking was a little pricey however. I look forward to staying here again.

Thank you for sharing your feedback after your recent visit. It was pleasing to read that you enjoyed your stay, particularly our convenient location opposite the Botanic Gardens with easy access to public transport of all forms. Our car parking prices are very competitive in the Brisbane CBD at only $28 for hotel guests and in many cases, cheaper than our competitors.

Stayed for a business trip, fab staff, very helpful. Lovely walks in park across the road in botanical gardens even along the riverside, watch out for the bikers on main paths.
Lovely room, asked for quieter room so got 8th floor, restaurant allowed me a late salad on arrival evening after long plane flight from Perth.
Held baggage for extra 1/2 day before heading back to airport which helped me a lot.
Tip - use Ferry Cat for longest trip to kill over 2hrs going up & down river for only $6.50 only a short walk to eagle Street jetty from the hotel.

Room Tip: Higher floors less street noise although park over road is wonderful

I appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback after your recent visit. I was pleased to read how much you enjoyed your stay and the high level of service provided by the entire team. Often when travelling the small touches make all the difference and I'm glad the team in the Walnut restaurant accommodated your needs after your late flight. The Royal is centrally located and the ferry from Eagle Street provides a great starting point to see the city.

We stayed here for two nights as we attended a reunion which was held there. Booking was organised simply and, for the quality of the room we consider we paid an inexpensive rate. The staff throughout the Hotel us well trained and service focussed. The Walnut provided us with an excellent dining experience at a fair price with a fun maitre d' and friendly waitresses. The only criticism I would make is that the food at the conference dinner was way below the quality we had paid less for, the night before. I understand that food provided for one hundred may be more standardised but I was disappointed.

Thank you for sharing your feedback after your recent stay. I was pleased to read that you stayed with us as well as attending the reunion dinner held in our Ballroom. All staff aim to make each interaction personable and memorable and I'm glad that your experience was no different. I apologise if the meal served at the reunion was not to the same standard as your previous meals in the Walnut Restaurant. All meals are prepared in the same kitchen using the same high quality ingredients. I have passed these comments on to the Food and Beverage Manager for his review.
Kind Regards
