“Great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 December 2013

Location, service and room was very good. The down part was the included breakfast; coffee looked like tea an tasted like...nothing and the breakfast itself was meagre. It is not worth paying the extra to include breakfast. Other than that a good hotel that I would gladly recommend!

I managed to locate this hotel in 2009 when I was walking at George street. I have stayed in this hotel many times since then. the hotel is one of the best hotel if you want to be very close to the restaurants and shopping centre. The room rate is very reasonable compared with other hotels 5 star hotels. The hotel is clean and well looked after.

Stayed in a double room. Rooms are simple and clean but well equipped. The bed was surprisingly comfortable. Location was great right in the heart of the CBD. Found it a little strange that they offered 1 free breakfast for a double room and then had to pay for an extra meal - ether include 2 meals or none. The food in the cafe was quite good though.

The HGW is an excellent place to stay in Brisbane's CBD, in my opinion without rival when it comes to location and economy. Unfortunately the word may to be spreading as its prices seem to be on the increase.
It is very centrally located to retail centre and transport nodes - bus, train and not too far from river cat wharf. Southbank an easy stroll across the river. Not sure about parking arrangements - I have stayed here many times now but never with a car.
Reception staff are great: friendly and efficient. This can sometimes be a bit of a contrast to the staff in the adjoining restaurant/bar
Rooms are certainly on the small side, but remember you are getting prime CBD real estate at a budget price. Just don't try to swing a cat in the bathroom.

Room Tip: A few of the rooms have courtyards - no harm in asking after one of those

Now if you need somewhere to freshen up, store your belongings (shopping...for our ladettes) and rest...Then this is the place for you. Room is small but with the necesities, bath, shower, air-con, tv and serviced daily... this being a BIG plus for us. Our room was close to the main-street but very quiet. Staff extremely helpful with places of interest for the 1st time traveller. Will definately return!
