“Gem in the middle of Brisbane”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

The recommendation for the George William came from an Information booth staffer, and we were very pleased with the result. The hotel is so centrally located that we could walk, access public transport as well as get out of the CBD and head for several parks to relax.

Rooms are small, but well laid out, maximizing the space and providing a desk--or counter space--that we used effectively. The restaurant downstairs was reasonable and had great breakfasts. Hotel staff could not have been any nicer, going above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable.

Upon reading the hotel literature, we realized that this hotel is owned by the YMCA and run as a non-profit. From the contemporary design, clean lobby and rooms, it was not evident that this was anything but a boutique hotel.

If the rooms were bigger, I'd give it 5 stars, but don't let that deter you from a great accommodation. Terrific value for the money!

Room Tip: Book early as this hotel fills with business travelers and conventions.

Dear Mary A,
Thank you for all of your feedback and for staying with us during your time in Brisbane.
Our location is very central and walking distance to all the City has to offer, our staff will be delighted to read your comments as the team prides themselves on our friendly, home away from home, culture. The limited floor space in the rooms is reflected in our price, which I was pleased to read you found "value for money".
Our profits are contributed to community projects through the YMCA, who are grateful that you stay with us and utilise our facilities such as 325 on George Restaurant.
We look forward to welcoming your back!
From the team at George Williams Hotel.

Central location, within walking distanceof CBD, South Bank and galleries makes this a great budget hotel. Fairly basic room but bed was comfortable and clean. Good security with swipe card access to lifts and rooms.

Set with outdoor seating on the road the restaurant welcomes hotel guests and passers by. They offer a great specials menu from Monday to Friday. We enjoyed a tasty steak and fries, mine had a lovely pepper sauce all for 15 Australian dollars each.

The car park is a nightmare with a 90 degree turn required to enter the car park - if you can find it in the first place as it's located in a dark cramp alleyway behind the hotel.

The rooms are from the 1980s, and are dark and gloomy.

Only upside I can think is the location of this hotel which places you close to everything... including the topless joint just in front of the hotel.

Will never come back.

When all the business/legal people have gone home the George William is great value. Location is great, a pleasant stroll over the river on the pedestrian/bike bridge to the South Bank & Museums etc. Airport train link also close by.
All the renovations have been completed with improved facilities & extra card swipe security on floors as well as rooms. Adjoining restaurant only serves breakfast on Sat/Sun. Wifi available for a fee.

Say you want to visit a city. You land late and you sleep and you check out first thing in the morning for your meetings and you are returning to your home city. And you just want a decent bed to sleep. Well, that is the point of this hotel. Located smack in CBD. Walking distance to everywhere including Central station (700 meters). Near malls (Queen St mall, Myers), near the town hall, city council offices, courts and business centres. The rooms are just about the size that will fit you in and the bathrooms are decent without having to wonder "WHOA". If I was on a holiday, I might spend a bit more and stay elsewhere, but for a short trip as described, this is ideal.

Room Tip: Go with the flow. There is not much of a view from the slightly high windows with curtains.

Close to everything in the city at the top end near casino and shops. Rooms are a bit smaller than usual but when on business they are OK. Quaint cafe on ground floor to enjoy after work and watch the city pass you by. Theater on opposite side of street as well as a good pub and parking.
