“The lungs of the city”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

Brisbane's City Botanical Gardens are right next to the CBD and offer a wonderful respite from the hustle and bustle of the city plus the summertime heat and humidity. The gardens feature very pleasant walking tracks and shady spots under huge trees as well as expanses of lawn where you can enjoy the sun. The massive banyan trees are especially impressive, as is the bamboo grove. The ponds near the Albert St gates are nice, with resident waterfowl and photogenic Eastern Water Dragons in abundance. It is a pity the Ibis seem to be moving in. I hope they rebuild the walkway through the mangroves as it was a great feature too. (It washed away in the 2011 flood.)

“A Cool Spot in a Hot City”
Reviewed 14 August 2014

The big old trees provide wonderful shade on a hot day. If you're interested in things historical botanical, this is a place for you. Many of the plants have survived since the 19th century in spite of several floods that inundated the whole area.

Who remembers the monkeys, the caged birds, and the big tortoise? The little zoo is long-gone, but we who visited it as children do. It was a bit whiffy, but that's something small children 'like'. 'Ooooh, Mummy, it stinks!' There are birds on the pond now, but they're free to leave at any time,

There is one downside - there are a few down-and-outers who hang around so it's best to stay on paths, always in view of the passing public and also sit in clear sight of others.

No, there are no "bathrooms", but I believe there are toilets/lavatories for both men and women.

“Great cycle ride”

Just off centre of Brisbane by the river loved the mangroves on waters edge and amazed at the size of the trees. Also pleasant for a picnic and you can also get married here and saw lots of wedding photos here. Just beautiful.

“An oasis in the city”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

A lovely walk on the way to the goodwill bridge for views of the river. We loved how there was free deck chairs to use to soak up some winter sun also well laid out gardens. Down by the river was a boardwalk with mangroves and wetland birds as well as metres of poinsettia bushes - quite a treat for British people who only see these in the shops at Christmas!
There was free barbecues available in private settings around the gardens so ideal for an afternoon out!

“Beautiful Day”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

It is lovely here, nice and serene, qiuet areas and a great play ground for the kids. You can sit on the grass and read or chill pout, or leaisurely walk around.
