We just spent weekend in Bris and picked the hotel for location and expected the tariff would of provided a reasonable standard...well it didn't, very average everthing from room appointment to staff service...give it a wide berth

Dear StephenTKidd,

It's never our intention for guests to leave our hotel unsatisfied and I sincerely apologise that we have failed to impress on this visit.

We encourage all of our in-house guests to contact our reception team (or Front Office Manager if reception are unable to help) whilst in house if they have any concerns during their stay, so we can rectify any problems you may have.

I am unclear of the exact concerns that you had during your stay and would welcome the opportunity to discuss them with you in person - If you would like you can contact the hotel direct and ask for Jeremy Nordkamp.

StephenTKidd, thank you once again and I hope that you will choose to stay with us again so that you can experience the great service that we are known for.

Kind regards,
Jeremy Nordkamp

Positives; spacious one-bedroom self-contained apartment, clean carpets and generally well maintained (apart from numerous chips in the bathtub), great location if you want to be near South Bank and the Convention Centre.
Negatives; over $300/night is pricey and worse still is the noise from the adjacent railway lines. If you're a early-morning person then you'd probably be ok (train frequency seems to pick-up after 5am) or if you can sleep with earplugs in.
It's seems a foolish way to save money by not double-glazing the windows in the rooms facing the railway line when the hotel was built. The river facing rooms are undoubtedly quieter, but while I can understand paying extra for a view, to pay extra for a quieter room is not acceptable as that should be a basic amenity. As a result, the negatives outweigh the positives and a 4+ rating becomes 2 (at least for the railway facing rooms).

Room Tip: Ensure you don't get a room facing the railway line.

Dear iancc,

Thank you for your candid feedback regarding your recent stay with us - I have passed on your comments RE: ‘cleanliness and well maintained’ on to our Housekeeping and Maintenance Manger, as they and their teams work very hard to ensure our product is well looked after. We are currently working through planned maintenance programme in our bathrooms.

The hotel has rooms that face the city and the west. The western side does have the railway line running behind the hotel. The windows on the western side are double glazed to reduce noise. Should you choose to stay with us again, please contact me directly and I will be happy to upgrade you free of charge to a one bedroom apartment facing the city/east.

Thank you again for the feedback iancc - We hope that you choose to stay with us again.

Kind regards

This is a nice hotel. The bed is comfortable, room is a decent size and the staff are absolutely lovely. The location is great, although finding it and getting to the parking can be quite difficult if you aren't familiar with the area. The pool was alright, nothing to rave about, as was the gym and both were hard to find. The rooms aren't particularly well sound proofed from each other. It lacked the "x" factor that would make me want to stay there again, especially for the price they charge. Perhaps it was the bathroom which was adequate but not what I would expect from somewhere with so many stars. Perhaps it was the bog standard complimentary tea and coffee room offering. It may have been the extremely bland and boring room decor. It could be that despite the high price, you still have to pay for Wi Fi and in-room movies. Whatever the case, the Mantra on Southbank is a very nice hotel. But If you can afford to stay here, you can afford to stay somewhere that really pops.

Room Tip: I can't offer too much advice on choosing a room. I assume the standard varies across the standa...

Booked two rooms - one for us, one for teanaged daughters. Got there very early (10am) and after a bit of confusion (they didn't have both rooms on the same booking) - they let us into our rooms then and there, which was great. Dumped our bags and went out to "shop" - Brisbane having much better shopping ops than Dunedin!!! Did the art gallery in the afternoon and had a fantastic dinner at a little french bistro up the block. The rooms were clean and decent value - but there is construction on the street and we had rooms overlooking the rail, rather than the river.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room overlooking the river, not the railway

Dear NJKiwiMum,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your stay with us.

I am glad to hear that after a rocky start we were able to sort the confusion and have you checked in nice and early.

We are very lucky to have South Bank Parklands across the road with Gallery of Modern Art right on our door step. It sounds like that you might have eaten at PIAF which is a great little French inspired cafe.

Thank you again for your comments and I hope that it is not to cold in Dunedin at the moment.

Kind regards

Adults weekend away from our wonderful little children was made all the better by the Mantra. Great rooms, nice views looking at the city and very central to all the Southbank restaurants and bars. NIce buffet breakfast in the restaurant. Stayed there over the weekend with some of our very best friends and had a fantastic time.
(Make sure you stay on the city side and not the railway side though!!!)

Thanks Mantra!

Booked on line direct with hotel and paid a premium for one bed suite - the only option available. Arrived with rental car from airport, parked out the front had to summons concierge as front desk was preoccupied, had to request luggage be brought in. First room next to lift overlooking railway, requested a change. New room designed for disabled person with bathroom fitted out accordingly - with same outlook. Strike three better outlook towards the city for an extra $30 per night. Ordered room service breakfast next morning told long delay best to come to restaurant. Couldn't order al a carte only buffet $30 per person. Maid intruded into room both mornings. Very amateurish not sure it wants to be a hotel or serviced apartments. Overpriced and devoid of any charm.
