We took the kids and they had a blast. It was great to see Jessica Watson's yacht up close.
Definately worth a visit if you're in the Southbank precinct.

We decided to visit the museum and after finding the very badly signposted entrance we paid and went into the museum at 3.40pm. Five minutes later a member of the organisation asked if we had been told that the main exhibit, the battleship, closed at 4pm. We should have been told this before we paid as there was insufficient time to look around it. The remainder of the exhibition was very interesting and without the time pressure it would have been more enjoyable.

I didn't know what to expect from this museum, however I was pleasantly surpised. For a small entrance fee that goes towards the costs of running the facility you get access to all the exhibits including the HMAS Diamantina the decommissioned River Class Frigate in the dry dock. There is so much to see throughout the place, and it has a nice laid back feel to the museum. The staff were also really lovely and stopped for a chat as well as answered any questions. Would highly recommend to anybody, I would definitely go again.

We visited here no long ago. The fee was nominal. They give you headphone with information about each exhibit. Had a fascinating afternoon out. Surprisingly interesting. Well worth a visit - the 2 hours we had wasn't quite enough - would have liked a little longer. Kids might get bored with headphones but would probably find the boats interesting.

Worth 1-2 hours.

Had a great morning at this historic museum. Yes, it is difficult to find the entrance since they built the Goodwill pedestrian bridge over the river but it is well worth finding it. Inside there are heaps of maritime exhibits on display including a make-up of part of the ship Lucinda, many model ships, exhibitions about navigation and an exhibition on lighthouses through the ages.
Outside there is the Dry Dock which has in it HMAS Diamantina, a River Class Frigate which is open to explore either self guided or with the audio tour. Pretty well all parts of the Diamontina are open to explore including the engine room, the bridge and wheelhouse and three decks with Officer's Mess, crew accommodation, kitchens and ammunition magazines. Great fun but sobering to think about the men who served in the ship during the latter part of the Pacific war. Interesting to find out the ship's part in the Japanese surrender. Also in the dry dock is the Carpentaria Lightship. Together with many more ships and maritime artefacts this museum a must for anyone interested in anything to do with ships and sailing.
