“Historic Building with a 5 mins walk to shops, cinema, restaurants & transport.!!”
Reviewed 15 October 2010

I recently stayed at this Hotel and chose it most for it's historic appeal and it didn't disappoint!

The reception staff were friendly and accommodating. The rooms were spacious and very clean on arrival and were well equipped with modern furniture & appliances.

It had the appeal of being in a New York style boutique hotel with everything I needed (incl Foxtel platinum) for entertainment.

What I really loved was the location as I could just walk out the front door and there I was
right in the heart of the fashion shops, restaurants, cinema and supermarket next door. Overall I would recommend it to my colleagues and family.

On arriving we thought the apartments looked great. Ornate and a nice historical building with nice character mixed with a modern look. This is a good location if you want to be in the middle of the city.

However on closer inspection there were a few issues:
- The second bedroom door locked itself when closing. This is not great when you have two young children who like closing doors and then lock themselves in - We called reception who say that sometimes with these doors the locks need placing! They sent someone up who I had to coerce into leaving me the key in case it happened again! NO APOLOGY!!!!!
- The sofas were very basic and uncomfortable at best.
- Holes in furniture were covered up by ornaments!
- The roof top pool is over looked by offices, and the office workers. We went up only to be ogled at. Not the nicest of experiences.
- Also had to pay for parking, at the rates they charge this should be included.

I would not recommend this hotel.

Do not, I repeat, do not book at the Penthouse and don't waste your money!!!!! We had stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment previously and thoroughly enjoyed it as we were given the 6th floor in a great apartment. Six months later, for my husband's 50th birthday party, instead of booking two 2-bedroom apartments( there were two couples), reception suggested to us that we should book the "Penthouse" instead. This was also because they could not guarantee two 2-bedroom apartment on the same floor even though we were willing to pay in advance!!! It was quite an expense but our two friends based on our recommendation, agreed to do so. WE paid quite a fair bit for the 3 bedroom penthouse for 3 nights and once again , reception recommended the top unit. I explained that we would be cooking a small dinner party for my husband and ask about cooking equipment in unit. They assured us that the Penthouse is fully equipped especially kitchen etc and that there is a BBQ available on the rooftop which guests could use. I had planned a "surprise dinner party" for my husband . He thought that there woudl only be four of us but i had invited our 4 other friends and our niece from japan who was studying at Brisbane Uni.

After a long wait at check-in, we were shocked when we entered the apartment. The bottom section was the entrance hallway with a small bedroom. The two main bedrooms , living, kitchen upstairs were spacious but we were shocked to find the apartment quite dirty - found some bits of broken glass underneath the settee, bits of fluff and hair on the floors - kitchen benchtops quite sticky and dirty. i. had to call reception to clean it again. None of the equipment worked properly and lots of missing utensils- no frypan, missing toaster , cooktop not working properly. etc.Rang reception but they said that it is the owner's responsibility to stock the apartment and that they cannot help us. We then suggested that maybe they could ring the owner or at least try to do something. Eventually, someone came up with a small old chopping board and a small aluminium saucepan. I thought well--- doen't matter, we can still use the BBQ on the roof terrace.
In addition the top half of the apartment (where all the living, two bedrooms etc ) was an extension of the building and as such was not solid brick etc. The noise was horrendous as it was next to the large air-conditioning unit on the roof. This is even with the windows closed. We were directly above the roof. The main bedroom and one side of the living room full glass windows is directly opposite the next door office's full size glass windows and we could see right through and vice versa.

When it was close to dinnertime , we went up to check on the BBQ but there was none. When I rang reception, I was told quite abruptly that they are in the process of getting one soon. What a schumozzle- people arriving , food prepared but no frypan in kitchen , hotplates not working properly etc- I raced downstairs to the supermarket and bought utensils etc ( additional costs) and luckily the grill and oven was working and we managed to cook our "surprise" dinner. Thank god - his "birthday surprise" could go ahead.
So whatever you do , do not , do not waste your money on the 3 bedroom unit and after this, I would definitely not stay at this place again. It would not have been so bad if it was just us . However, I feel bad that our friends who stayed there , based on our recommendation, had to pay high cost for the accommodation and then on top of that , was unable to sleep properly because of the noise factor as well that had to have their blinds down all the time due to the office block next door.

If space right in the heart of the city is what you need, this is the place for you. If it weren't for the rather worn rug, this massive apartment-style, two bedroom, two full bathroom, kitchen, laundry, etc. would be easy five-star quality. Right on one of Brisbane's busiest streets, but absolutely silent on the first floor. Massive flat with 15-foot ceilings, marble, granite, all mod-cons. The big issue is service - there basically is none. Our "check in" was a nightmare. We arrived after hours and were locked out on the street trying to figure out the process. Thank God we had a mobile phone. But once there, all was fine. The rooftop pool is tiny, and so is the workout room. The reception people, when they were there, were aloof. It's really more of a longer-stay apartment building than a short-stay vacation spot. But this is one historic place. Be sure to visit the Douglas MacArthur Museum on the eighth floor.

Stayed here a couple of times. Usually something always wrong with the room whether it be cleanliness, TV broken, lights blown, lift broken, air conditioning broken, washer/dryer broken, no blinds on windows, phones broken, not adequate kitchen utensils.
Have had some good experiences and the location is great.

A weekend visit to Brisbane where we found that despite the size of the apartment, the state of the room left a lot to be desired. The room was dimly lit, more so as several of the halogen lights needed replacing, while of the grubby bathrooms did not even have a door handle(it had been ripped off and left a large hole). Service on the weekend was so poor that none of these aspects of the room could be attended too. In fact, rarely was there someone at the desk downstairs and if there was, the attitude was never a helpful one. Being close to Queens St Mall has its advantages, but in the early hours of Sunday morning it also means lots of yobbish carry on and police sirens to boot.

We have just recently stayed at MC for a two night family break in Brisbane. We have young children and the appeal was being in an apartment rather than hotel room.
Good feel to the property and the rooms were huge. Very reasonably priced and can't beat the location (at the base of the Queen St Mall). A woolworths located next door, so perfect for last minute bits and pieces. We will make this our new regular place to stay in Bris.
For an extra $10 a day we parked our car in the hotel which was well worth it.
The only thing that's a little tricky is checking in to get the car park pass, when you can't park in the carpark to check in!! There are two bays out the front of the hotel, so you do need to hope they are available.
