“Good stay with room for improvement”
Reviewed 26 October 2013

The location in the Valley area is phenomenal. The courtyard outside has 4-5 restaurants and a coffee shop. It's walking distance from all the exciting nightlife in the area, and Chinatown. If you head down Brunswick towards the river, you have a beautiful park (New Farm area) just 15-20 minutes away (and they have live music for free on the weekends at the park!). The BEST coffee in Brisbane (LTD coffee) is just two blocks away.
The staff at this hotel is fantastic. Courteous, knowledgeable, and accommodating. They truly know how to make you feel comfortable and welcome.
The room itself (we stayed in a 1 bedroom with a mini kitchen) is spacious and has a small washer/dryer. They provide laundry detergent and basic hotel-size bathroom items. The kitchen has a mini fridge, and main essentials for making / serving meals.
The only reason I cannot give this location a 5 star is for two reasons: dust and the excessive bird droppings in the balcony.
Although we did enjoy our stay, and would technically recommend it to my friends, I would warn that although the kitchen and bathroom were clean, the bedroom and living room were very dusty. The edges of the legs of the furniture (against the carpet) had that grayish white powder from excess of dust that had been sitting for a long time. The table where the TV sat had a dust layer that really needed attention. The night stands were dusted on top, but the cubbies underneath had large dust bunnies. The second thing was that we were not able to enjoy the balcony because a family of pigeons had taken up residence in the balcony Air Con unit and it was covered with their droppings. The unit itself was covered, and the floor around it and table out there had droppings on it too. Even if the chairs / table hadn't had it on them, it was impossible to be out there because of the smell. We did not mind since we didn't care about sitting outside, but it's fair to warn others that might be interested in using the balcony.

I stayed at this hotel as part of a conference in Brisbane called Big Sound, it is a music conference. This is basically an apartment you are renting. The upside is that you get a full large apartment with a living room, separate bedroom and a kitchen area. It's spacious, you have a private balcony and it's clean. This is great and why we gave this 3 stars.

However, this is not really a hotel. How? The rooms are pretty bare and the daily room service is not great. They DID make the bed which is great but never replaced the towels. Also, the soap dish in the bathroom shower was broken. Again, we liked staying here as it was like we had our own apartment in Australia. However, as far as a full service hotel, this is a little lighter on the amenities and more on giving you your own space in Australia.

One VERY POSITIVE note to add: When I checked in I saw that our international adapters were broken in flight. I asked the front desk where to get a new one. They instead just gave me one from behind the desk and told me to keep it for the rest of the stay. When I checked out and asked where to get one as I was heading to Sydney to stay with a friend, they just gave me the one I was using and told me to keep it. This was very nice of them and really made my stay

Have stayed at this hotel a couple of times and have never been disappointed. The rooms are all of a high standard with balconies. Huge kitchens and comfy beds. So convenient to restaurants at the front door and all are of a high calibre. Rooms are serviced daily and staff are very friendly and helpful. Centrally located to the markets in Brunswick St Mall and the train station is within easy walking distance. Coffee Club is right downstairs for a lovely breakfast and/or lunch

We booked a 3.5 star room and when we opened the door, we were hit with a dreadful smell - not sure what it was but it was overwhelming. We went straight to reception where a lovely young lady did not hesitate to upgrade us to a 4 star room which we found really comfortable. Separate bedroom, kitchenette and bath in bathroom. This hotel is in the middle of it all. Restaurants and entertainment everywhere. Will stay again but will definitely book a 4 star room.

Room Tip: If you want to be right in the valley and have access to everything, stay here!!!

Ok, positives, great location, design of rooms is ok with a separate bedroom and large lounge/kitchen. Negatives... the cleaners should be replaced immediately, hairs everywhere, dishes and glasses not clean, windows look like they have never been cleaned and again, to emphasize, HAIR EVERYWHERE, how blind must the cleaners be to not see the amount of hair on the floor, in the shower, in the bed, on the couch and on the pillows! Bed was shockingly bad, it should have been replaced a year ago as the springs had completely gone, sit on bed and it compresses flat to the frame, woke up every morning with terrible back pain. Windows do not open and there was no balcony so only source of 'fresh' air was the air-conditioner. Remember EAR PLUGS, there is a new building going up across the road and they start the jack hammers at 6AM! anywhere else in Australia this would be illegal but in Brisbane it seems to be acceptable, added with the constant traffic noise you will need plugs if you want any sleep. Overall, I won't be staying here again until they change the cleaners and make their windows accessible as I like fresh air!

Room Tip: Higher the better but remember the ear plugs!
