Kingsford Riverside Inn
Ranked #111 of 168 Hotels in Brisbane
Reviewed 25 January 2011

We arrived to find Brisbane in chaos. Our pre-booked motel was closed and we had to ring around. Kingsford Riverside Inn answered the phone and assured us that even though they were by the river they were above the flood line and it was business as usual but a bit more exciting.

The taxi got lost because of road closures, so the owner very kindly picked us up. He informed us the hotel wasn't affected by the 1974 flood and this one was going to be about the same height. Happily he was right. He was also standing by with a 4WD just in case!

What a truly spine-tingling view! The Brisbane River was in full flood only 50 metres away – anawesome and frightening sight. We had a ringside seat at the most scary and devastating event in Brisbane's history! We were able to walk across the road and stand on the river bank and hear and feel the energy rushing past.

The power and speed of the water was truly terrifying. We had a grandstand view as the most amazing items swept past - yachts, pontoons, whole ferry terminals, even a 300 metre public walkway... Every high tide was like a parade of expensive toys. A cabin cruiser broke loose from its moorings right in front of the hotel and took off down the river. Just one of many.

It was a complete accident that we stayed at Kingsford Riverside Inn. We don't normally stay in the more budget places, but what a great adventure it turned out to be!

We hardly noticed the rooms but they were comfortable, the facilities were good and the owners and the managers were fantastic. There was a great air of excitement, the power stayed on, the Internet worked, nobody got their feet wet, and we had a truly great stay!

What a great place! Clean and well run by well informed staff who made us feel at home. We would highly recommend it even if there isn't a flood!

I'm not a believer in wasting money on expensive rooms especially when travelling by myself. I arrived early (08.00) and was sent upstairs for a free breakfast while my room was being organised.
After fruit juice, coffee, toast, fruit salad etc I was shown to a clean and tidy airconditioned room. The facilities are shared but that was no problem as they're well looked after and I found them clean and perfectly adequate. Great staff with a great attitude.
I suppose if the place was elsewhere in the world I might be nervous of shared facilities, but this is a family hotel in Brisbane Queensland, not gangland USA!
Pleasant stay, slept well, and as a bonus got another free breakfast the following morning before I checked out!
Happy to recommend it!

on busy street corner with big trucks whizzing by and braking. Looked clean, smelled funny. The person who checked me in was friendly and helpful and upgraded my room -- thank heavens. I just don't like having to venture outside my room in the middle of the night to use the toilet. The photos on the internet make it look much nicer than it really is. It is old and tired. I could have stayed closer to the airport and had a private shower and toilet. The remote control for the TV did not work. Didn't sleep very well, just didn't feel comfortable.

We stayed one night at this hotel because the Brisbane Airport website said it was the closest budget motel to the airport. The rooms are simple but clean and quaint. It really was a good quiet stay and we slept well. You do not have a bathroom in the room but they were easy to access and were also very clean. The Motel is also really close to one of the best steak houses in Brisbane (it is a cool place ask the staff just 2 block away). I gave it 4 stars because it is not a RITZ but is well worth a stay and there is a good view of the city from the top.

We stay here every year when we come to music concerts or events in Brisbane. It's all about the money and Kingsfird Riverside Inn is always the best value, clean and friendly.
Sharing a Family room is cheaper than a backpackers. The place is always immaculately clean. The rooms are comfortable and there is more more privacy and better facilities than backpackers and you won't find free free breakfast and free internet in a backpackers.
The self-cook kitchen is great and a real meeting place. This year we noticed the carpets were new and the interior freshly done up. The owners are great and thanks for the extra free biscuits.

Whatever people have said in the past,it certainly dose not relate to the Kingsford Riverside Inn that I found.
The managers were friendly, the interior was clean and tidy and tastefully painted. Rooms were well lit, clean, comfortableand freshly carpeted. Linen and beds were immaculate. The plasma TV was perfectly placed so you could lie in bed and watch it. Bathrooms are shared but were immaculate with modern tiles and fittings.
You could also tap into the free wireless internet while lying in bed with your laptop.
I think this place is well managed and is run in a generous manner. Even the drinks machine will give you a can of Coke for only a dollar! I have no reservations in recommending Kingsford Riverside Inn to anyone-singles,couples, families, whatever!
