“Another great stay at the Citigate-Sebel”
Reviewed 19 October 2012

This is the second time my husband and I have stayed here. This time round is was for the night of our wedding. My husband had gone to check in early in the day and had mentioned that the room smelt a bit smokey and when we got to the hotel after midnight, I found the smell to be pretty bad. The porter that helped us up to our room promptly called down to the front desk and got us moved to another room - I think in the Sebel tower. The room they upgraded us to was excellent and they even gave us complimentary champagne which was lovely.

We stayed here two nights this time, one night last time (September 2010) and would definitely stay at this hotel again. Service is pretty good, hotel is in a great location.

We had breakfast in the little cafe attached to the hotel. Alright prices and nice food.

Well located in the CBD. But get ready to put your hand in your pocket. Wi-fi is frightfully expensive. Should be complimentary, considering the cost of the rooms. Parking is also expensive.

Dont know what clening chemicals they are using around the place, maybe there have been some problems but my room smelt really strongly of chemical/varnish/cleaning fluid? As did the restaurant area.

I wouldnt frequent this place as there are better value options but if youre a tourist and youre prepared to pay, you cant argue with the location.

Hotel was nice, rooms are a little small though. Bathrooms could use an update but they were clean so that's what counts. Gym was fine too, had what I needed. Great location, short walk to the river and cafe's - nice river walk.
Room service was prompt but pizza was undercooked and luke warm. Bed was comfortable enough and reasonably quiet.
Would stay here again.

Location was great, staff were friendly & very efficient. Room was good. Bathroom was terrible. Chipped tiles, dirty looking shower (looked mouldy down the bottom) paint peeling off door surrounds. Luckily we only stayed one night as I would have had to go out & buy some bleach for the bathroom otherwise. Safe didn't work & we rang to get it fixed with about an hour before we had to go out. No one came so after 45 minutes we rang again hoping we could lock up our valuables befoire we went out for the night. Someone eventually came to fix it but couldn't so we left our goodies with friends in the room next door's safe. Luckily we knew someone else in the Hotel. We got a deal as there were quite a few of us staying there but it was still extremely expensive for what we got.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room if any of them have been refurbished or take a bottle of bleach with you.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at The Sebel & Citigate King George Square Brisbane. Its great to hear that the staff were friendly and efficient. With regards to the bathroom and other maintenance issues, I’m sorry you were in a room of that state.

I will ensure your comments are passed onto our housekeeping and maintenance teams for follow-up. We are the process of refurbing our Pullman tower (previously Sebel) with some soft furnishing going into our Mercure tower (previously Citigate). Everything was right in this hotel. The room with Queen bed was not huge but comfortable to move around in and good value for price. Everything worked well- efficient reception, knowledgeable and friendly concierge, and good room service.

Excellent location in the city centre. Enjoyed close by walks to Roma Park. It is also within easy walking distance of a range of shops and restaurants.
Hotel staff were friendly and efficient. Check-in process was very quick and easy. Bedroom was adequate with comfy beds and regular servicing. Bathroom facilities were good with option of fresh towels daily.
Surprised wi-fi wasn't available free. Signage needs to be improved on the outside of the building to make it more obvious.
A good option for a brief stop-off in Brisbane.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter.
