“Great fun and staff need a bit of polish”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 January 2012

This visit was the second time I'd come to Koh-Ya. It's always fun to be able to order meats and cook your own food. It generates the lot of discussion and laughter. The food was good and we had great fun.

It was sometimes difficult to get the attention of a waitstaff. Sometimes the questions we asked weren't always answered. They were a little tangential in nature. For example, the edamame came out cold. It was the first time we'd ever had it that way. So we asked if that was how this restaurant served it. Simple yes/no question. The answer was very long and convoluted, something to do with yes it can be hot or cold or even warm and it's up to personal taste etc etc. Very odd, amusing though.

With the Entertainment Card it was awesome value. Would definitely go there again, there's a great vibe. Be prepared to come out smelling like a BBQ though! :-)

“Love this restaurant!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 January 2010

I love Japanese cuisine and up until now my husband has only tolerated my constant urges for sushi. However this restaurant has converted him - he absolutely loved it and can't wait to go back. He's even thought about what he'll order. He particularly loved cooking the wagyu beef himself and he was also a fan of the tuna sashimi. I've given him miso soup at home before which he didn't like, but lo and behold as he was guzzling a bowl of it he asked "What's this? Can we have this at home?".

I loved the friendly atmosphere and the comprehensive menu. The buffet would be a good idea if you want to sample lots of things.

“Great first Yakinuku experience. I'm hooked!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2009

Fantastic experience if you haven't tried Yakinuku before. Thoroughly enjoyable, my tip if dining for two is to try the BBQ platter for two rather than a buffet option. Its a little cheaper ($33 each) and is more than enough food. Lots of great tasting meat, chicken and prawns, if you'd like more veggies, you can order a plate of veggies. Last tip - don't wear your favorite clothes as you walk out smelling like a BBQ. Great fun! Have to admit though, if my friend, who has been several times, wasn't with us, I'd have been a lost as to what to do, how etc etc..
