well we had a holiday in Queensland last February and we went to 3 islands and 1 out reef....we 4 people all agreed that Fitzroy Island is the best !!!! a gem of great barrier reef <3 <3 <3

(another locations we went were one of the islands in whitsundays region, green island, and outer reef)

we did so many researches to find which site is the best in term of snorkeling... and we couldnt decide ... so we went to as much as we could ... outer reef and island

From my own experienced... outer reef is good spot for strong swimmer, or scuba diving.,,there you can find many fish and turtles.. and perhaps little shark... but it takes so long to get out there and the wave is quite rough ... so i dont recommend for not so strong swimmer

at Fitzroy .... i found many fish (just like outer reef where it took me so long to get out there), and turtles toooooo... beyond that i also found so many "colour reef/corals" ( i saw none in outer reef ... maybe you have to do scuba diving to see them out there at outer reef).

among 4 sites ... Fitzroy island is the BEST for SNORKELING !!!!! so many fish (much more and easier to see than outer reef) ... though the turtles here are a little harder to find than the outer reef .. but i was still lucky enough to find 2 of those :) ....... here is the BEST for COLOUR CORALS/ REEFS

+better for not so strong swimmer
+have beach and facilities for you to have a rest
+not crowded like green island ... quieter, more privacy ... good to explore the true marine natures ... not others' people fins !!!
+good service ... staffs are nice and friendly
+the vessel is safe and clean

the beach itself is also awesome ... nice and clean <3

+must go to "nudey beach" by walking or even snorkeling to there... a nice, privacy beach
+swim along the coast near the big rock ... dont go too far from the coast (nothing to see out there) ... the 'secret' things are along the coast near the ROCK ... remember!!! to swim near the rock and you wont be disappointed !
+swim from the main beach to the nudey beach ... and yes along the coast
-staffs only at the main beach ... so take you friends/ family members with you while swimming along the coast

ps. we did full program with Raging Thunder including nice lunch , and can use all facilities (kayak, water trampoline, and snorkeling equipment) ... and worth to do so

ps2. we went there on a cloudy day and not so clear water after the raining .... but stillllllll AWESOME <3 <3 <3

10 stars for this <3 <3 <3

Took the Raging Thunder ferry to Fitzroy Island at 8:30am with a 4:30pm return. It's a pretty full day on the island with plenty to do. Go on the ocean trampoline (doesn't really bounce), rent paddle boards or kyacks, rent snorkeling equipment. Lie/sit on the beach. Wish they had a hammock village. There's a small turtle hospital that you can tour. There are at least four hiking trails. We did the hardest one: the Summit hiking trail, which was just as difficult and strenuous as they said. It was uphill/downhill over uneven, steep steps. Bring bug spray, I got eaten alive by mosquitos. But beautiful views.

There are bathrooms, outdoor showers, lockers for rent ($5 AUD with unlimited reentry). There's a general store for snacks, shirts, drinks, etc. The island's resort bar had good daiquiris (a virgin one cost $9 AUD). We had lunch at Foxy's. It was crowded (being the only real place to eat on the entire island that is open to the public. The resort's restaurant and pool are only for paying guests staying at the hotel.) We waited 35 minutes for our food. I had flatbread with three different dips, which was pretty good.

I had a fantastic experience going to to Fitzroy Island with Raging Thunder.

The staff at the ticket desk at the Reef Fleet Terminal were so friendly, and gave us clear directions where to go (which helped as there were quite a few boats departing around the same time!)

The staff were friendly and the boat was clean and spacious. Fortunately for us, the weather was perfect, so we sat on the top of the boat and enjoyed the sunshine both on the way there, and back.

Going out to Fitzroy was spectacular, nothing but peace and beauty, you start the day with lounging and relaxing, fitting in a tan you can then choose to go on the bottle glass boat to gather information about the coral reef and the island, very interesting (guide was fantastic), you can then go snorkeling to see turtles and colorful fish and enjoy the warm water. After that there is the option to walk to the lighthouse and then hike to the summit which is breath taking. I could have spent a week on the island and then feel satisfied with doing everything but one day is not enough. The crew are funny and so so so relaxed and that's nice to be on holiday with these guys! There is the option for the hotel which looks very welcoming with bar and restaurant along the front with an out standing view.

Visited yesterday and was left feeling a bit disappointed. Welcome bay beach ok. Snorkelling was dry disappointing! Equipment was useless- my partner was told it's because he has stubble his goggles always leak?? So what's my excuse as being a female I don't have stubble!! If you can bare to climb rock boulders and track up very tricky unmade path and dodge massive rock boulders then visit Nudey beach! It is amazing! Beautiful white sand and blue and turquoise waters!!!! Overall was ok but nothing to rave about!!!!
