“Dive Trip with Deep Sea Divers Den”
Reviewed 16 December 2008

Upon visiting Deep Sea Divers Den, my husband and I were also offered the option to pay in our own currency. We had already accepted this option with businesses like Europcar and Emirates Airlines, as we prefer to pay in our own currency, so we know exactly what we are spending.

Initially I too thought the exchange rate was poorer compared to the Exchange Bureau rate, however the exchange rate I was comparing it to was incorrect, as it was a cash rate and I was paying with my credit card. We found when we compared the credit card exchange rate, the rate was comparable.

More importantly I discovered that if we had chosen to pay in AUD we would not have known what we’d spent until we got home and check our credit card statement, whereas by choosing our own currency we knew exactly what we was being debited from our bank account, as soon as we signed our EFTPOS receipt.

“Great diving experience”
Reviewed 4 December 2008

The crew was very friendly and helpful. The boats were not at all crowded. Everything was well organized and professionally run. The diving was great, the live-aboard was beautiful, and sleeping on the boat was so relaxing! I wish we could have stayed longer.

“Ocean Quest Live Aboard”
Reviewed 26 May 2008

Spent a great night on the Barrier Reef on the Ocean Quest. A little hesitant to do this as a snorkeller and not a diver but it was an incredible 2 days and one highly recommended. You get transported to the reef by a day boat which is great, fast trip out and lunch was yum! Transfer to Ocean Quest takes place about 2.30pm and is very well organised.

The live aboard boat is a little dated compared to the photos on the web but that is soon forgetten when you see the surroundings of the Barrier Reef. Food is excellent, crew are great, room and bed were comfortable . At one stage my husband and I were the only snorkellers on the reef we had stopped at, much different to the big commercial boat that seemed to have them coming into the water by the hundreds. Excellent view from the back of the boat during the night with so many fish attracted to the light, incredible experience lying on the duck board with face in water watching them.

A little rough on the second day but we got to snorkel a total of four times, opted out of the last one due to the weather, plus got the view from the back of the boat . Amazing sights.

My only regret to the whole trip was that we had to leave!

“Great Barrier Reef overnight trip with Deep Sea Divers Den”
Reviewed 6 April 2008

My wife and I booked a 2 day overnight trip with "Deep Sea Divers Den" to the Barrier Reef in late March 2008. We went as snorkellers. There were more divers than snorkellers on the trip, and it soon became apparent that the crew`s primary emphasis was on getting the divers into the water first. Us snorkellers had to wait quite a lengthy time at each stop before we could get into the sea. This shortened the time we were able to explore the reef, and was quite disappointing. We are both experienced snorkellers, and we were disappointed by the poor visibility at the outer reef - we were approximately 40 Km from land. The poor visibility was attributable to 2 causes. Firstly it was a full moon, and therefore a much stronger run of tide than at other times of the month. Secondly, it had been very windy for several days prior to our trip. It is certainly well worth taking both of these factors into account when planning your expensive trip to the outer reef.
You also need to be aware that if you are paying for your trip with VISA or MASTERCARD, "Deep Sea Divers Den" will encourage you to pay in the currency of your home country (i.e UK Pounds) rather than AU Dollars. This is totally unnecessary, and means that you get a much poorer exchange rate. This is an issue which has been highlighted in the Financial Newspapers in the past, but Deep Sea Divers Den was the only place in Australia where we encountered this method of Credit Card transaction.
