“Well appointed and comfortable”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

We were inn Cairns after 2 weeks on the road traveling by camper-van from Darwin with friends. I had booked for 2-nights a 2-bedroom apartment, which turned out to be a 1-bed room suite with adjoining studio, an arrangement that was very appropriate to our grouping. The apartment was very clean and well equipped and the washing machine and dryer was well used cleaning out the red outback dust from 4 adults clothing! Be aware the accommodation is serviced only every 7-days. The suite had a large balcony with chairs and table which provided a very pleasant area in which to relax for sundowners. The apartment is just across the road from a Mall (including supermarket) and an easy stroll from the Esplanade and CBD. Staff were very pleasant and helpful and I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed in the Best Western Central Cairns for 5 nights recently in a family apartment. The experience was a mixed bag.
The "apartment" was actually a 1 bedroom attached to a studio, so it was reasonably spacious, but was a bit redundant as it had 2 kitchens. The rooms themselves are extremely basic but reasonably comfortable. There is no air condition in the bedroom, only in the living area and in the studio, but this wasn't really a problem since the weather in Cairns in July/August is very pleasant. The TV had horrible reception. The bathroom was basic but adequate. The staff were helpful, but be warned that they are only there until 7pm. Parking is free in their big parking garage. There is a small pool on the roof, but its not heated and the water was freezing. The jacuzzi was also barely warm enough to take a dip in. Location is ok - its across the road from the big mall and its about 15 minutes walk from the esplanade. I did like the kitchen as it let us prepare our own breakfast. Free wifi was limited but more or less adequate.
The main problems were twofold:
1) the connecting door between the rooms was impossible to leave open. We tried jamming all sorts of things under it but the floor was too slippery and the closing mechanism was too strong. We had to keep a chair in the doorway to keep it open. This is obviously a problem if you have small children.
2) They only clean the rooms once every 7 days. So if you're there for less, you have a dirty room for the entire stay. If you run out of toilet paper after 7pm you will need to find a convenience store that is open. They only leave you about 2 days worth of toilet paper, so make sure you go down to the desk and ask for more. Same goes for clean towels. You can wash them yourself in the washer dryer, but otherwise you need to make sure you have a good supply.
I don't know if I would stay here again. I'm pretty sure you you can get something cheaper and not as limiting, or slightly more expensive and much nicer.

My wife and I stayed a week in a 1 bedroom studio with a balcony looking inland. We had a microwave, refrigerator and coffee/tea maker. Everything in the room worked great. We used the hotel's wi-fi every day on our mobile devices to check emails, check the internet, etc. It was always fast and reliable. The location is great as it is across the street from the main shopping center in town. It is also a mile walk to the reef terminal if you need to catch a boat to the Great Barrier Reef. There are also several shops and restaurants close by. Security was great. We had to use a card to get to our floor in the elevator and to get in the hotel after the front desk closed. The front desk is open every day during the day, but closes every evening. Check out their web site for the desk hours. The staff was fantastic!! We arrived from the US 4+ hours before check in. They stored our luggage while we went to the bank in the shopping center & changed our money at a much better rate than what we could have gotten at the airport. They let us into our room 3 hours early when it was ready. They can do all of you tour planning there. We had prebooked all of our tours before leaving the US, but twice when the tour bus failed to pick us up they made calls for us that helped us arrange other activities for the day. The regional tourism office is also right behind the hotel. The only drawbacks to this hotel were that you cannot print out boarding passes from their business center, but you can email your flight information to the front desk and they will print them for you. Also, be aware that there are 2-3 other Best Western hotels in Cairns & it is easy for tour operators to go to the wrong hotel to pick you up for your tour. This happened twice to us. Just be sure to confirm the hotel adress with the tour company before your pick up. We would gladly stay there again.

Stayed at the Best Western for 4 nights in July 2014 whilst in Cairns for work. Unfortunately my work colleague booked the wrong accommodation for me and instead of having a 1 bedroom suite, was provided a studio room. The complex is very clean, centrally located with a large shopping centre across the road and in walking distance to the centre of town. The complex is well maintained and very clean and the staff are very polite. Unfortunately the studio room is very, very small, which is standard for this type of accommodation and for a 1 night stop over, would be perfect, but not for 4 nights. The studio room comprised od a double bed, writing table and single chair, kitchenette comprising mini bar sized fringe, kettle, toaster, microwave and 2 sets of dinnerware / cutlery. The 13th floor has a pool area, however, this can not be accessed after hours. Even the studio room had a balcony which you could walk onto to capture the breeze and sights of Cairns, which was very welcomed indeed.

Overall, the location of this complex is great and the accommodation is very clean and well presented. The error on the room size was not management's it was an oversight and unfortunately this did detract from our stay. I would certainly stay here again when I return to Cairns, but will double check the accommodation to make sure I have a larger room when I do.

Room Tip: Get at least a 1 bedroom apartment for anything more than 1 nights accommodation.

We stayed in a one bedroom apartment for six nights with a balcony looking towards the coastline. It was clean, spacious and well equipped right down to dishwasher, washing machine and dryer with no extra charge. Bedding is comfortable. It is convenient to a large shopping complex and Cairns train station across the road and about a ten minute walk to the Esplanade. The staff are very friendly and helpful with bookings for nearby attractions (a big thank you to Tammie).

Room Tip: Ask for a high up room with a balcony facing the sea.

Booked for a week long get away, great location:- 5-10 minute walk to the esplanade and across the road from a big shopping centre.
Has room service from local restaurants (pricey).
Hotel was clean, comfortable and we had a nice balcony. Secure parking available for no extra cost.
Price was around $450 for 5 days, will definitely book there again.

We had a wonderful stay here . We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment for a week and we were so happy with our choice. Staff were wonderful and so very helpful. Room was on the 9th floor and had lovely views from the balcony. Room was spotlessly clean and very spacious. Apartment was very central to everything and only a short walk to the esplanade. I would recommend this place absolutely ! Its first class !
