“Clean and friendly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2013 via mobile

I stayed here as a solo traveller and loved it. I was in a four bed dorm and it was extremely spacious, comfortable beds, very clean. The lounge area was good space to chill and meet other backpackers. The staff were very friendly and helpful, let me store my bags for 3days with no charge. The no noise after 11 policy meant a good nights sleep but it didn't mean we couldn't stay up past that as long as the noise level was low.

We stayed here just over a week in July was the best hostel we stayed in throughout our trip. The staff were very helpful and accomodating, couldn't do enough for you. The rooms were lovely bad beds comfortable, everywhere was clean. The hostel is about a 8 minute walk from the city so it is peaceful but near shops and bars/pubs. We missed our flight early in the morning and the team allowed us to wait around till we rescheduled it. If back to cairns again will definetely be coming back again! Couldn't recommend it enough.

This place felt like heaven when we first arrived, was newly refurbished, clean and homely. We stayed in a 3 bed dorm which fit us and all our luggage in with plenty of room to spare. We all slept easy the entire time we were there, even though we were right next door to the common room, as the hostel has a no noise after 11pm policy. That wasn't their only policy, infact every wall was littered with signs telling us not to do this or not to do that, which made it feel as if they were suspicious of our every movement. Also strangely we had to hire our kitchen utensils from the front desk with a $20 deposit. The atmosphere was very poor, with people not even acknowledging your presence in a room. In saying that, because of the poor social atmosphere, we had the best sleep of our lives. I would recommend this hostel for someone who enjoys peace and quiet over a constant party. Reception staff were lovely and couldn't help us enough.

Room Tip: Pick any room, your going to have a good sleep regardless

I didn't plan to stay for much longer than a few nights, but I stayed here for over a week. The staff were really really helpful! They organised our trip out to the Great Barrier Reef, and kept letting us buy nights as we took them. I have never had a hotel/hostel so helpful. The hostel is a short walk to the centre of Cairns, but all routes are nice whether it's the route through the Esplanade or straight down the road past all the bats in the trees. We booked a room to ourselves (3 of us) which was actually a 7 bed that they promised to put no one else in, which was cool but they seemed to have a problem with us touching the other beds, which was a bit weird. The wifi did act up a few times, happened to be when we needed it most, but was generally ok. There was a lot of ants in the kitchen and bathroom etc not a big deal if you just keep your food wrapped up but they're unavoidable, they come out whether you live clean or dirty. Also saw a few roaches in the bathroom each night, aslong as the lights on they don't come out, so just shut the door and leave them to themselves and they won't bother you. It is north Australia and these bugs are there so just deal with them. There is also signs everywhere saying stuff down the lines of "Like it or leave" (much like their tripadvisor pic about bad reviews), which is needless as this is a generally good hostel and I wouldn't have stopped anywhere else.

Our stay at globetrotters was our worst in Australia. Not because the facilities are bad but due to the atmosphere and environment created in the hostel. There are signs everywhere telling you not to do this and that 'or else' or because 'you will be thrown out'. We stayed in a lot of hostels and none were so suspicious of their guests, it felt like they constantly expected us to be trashing the place. They have a strange system of having your own box of kitchen equipment to ensure everybody washes up, good in theory and under the premis that you get better quality kitchen tools, but in no other hostel did we have plastic tableware, the undertone being that we couldn't be trusted with anything else. There was only two bathrooms for around 8 rooms which wasn't enough. There is no 24 hour reception as advertised on hostelworld when we booked and we arrived late there was a folder with our room key in, luckily we had wifi and were able to pick up an email with the gate code enclosed, otherwise we would have been stuck outside, and this information was only provided when we emailed, despite indicating on the booking form that we would be arriving late.

There were, however, positives, the rooms though simple are bright and airy with comfy beds but no hooks for wet towels- backpackers need to dry their stuff! The pool area is compact but refreshing in the heat. There was plenty of cupboard space and just enough fridge space on the top floor.

Despite the warning on the front door that bad luck follows those who post bad reviews, I think we will take our chances.

The Globetrotters International is a modern hostel with all the facilities (and lack thereof) that you would expect from a hostel. The rooms were clean and staff friendly. The kitchen was big with plenty of fridge space and kitchen equipment. There was a pool area, but its not really useful for more than a bit of lounging about, but still nice. There is a laundromat for washing your clothes ($4) and lots of hanging space. Air conditioning between 6pm-9am.

Between 4 friends we had a 4 person room, but if you are going to room with strangers then the room may be a bit uncomfortably small and there isn't a lot of space for private things.

Overall, it is a good hostel for the money.

Dear owners,

had a double room, for 56 Dollar, a little bit overrated for now.

Things to improve:
- get some PAID staff (not just backpackers working for accommodation -- would you like to make a hard try in cleaning up, if you don´t get paid???)
- let the paid staff tidy up the whole hostel (toilets!)
- get someone who repairs the messed up stuff (furniture outside), let somebody take the cushions in when raining
- remove the former white couches in main room, exchange

Then 56 Dollar would be a good deal.

Room Tip: Get one of the rooms downstairs, so you just share a kitchen with two other rooms (there are two 3 b...
