I stayed here 4 years ago and enjoyed it, things have gone way downhill since then. Facilities are worn down and heavily used. Kitchens and bathrooms are filthy, dishes stacked in the sinks, littered with pizza boxes. Stoves/ovens work sporadically or not at all and are caked in filth. Internet is slow. AC is extra charge now. Very noisy. Front desk help is non-existant.

Good hostel, clean, comfy and very homely. There are a lot of long term people staying there which seems to make the hostel a bit cleeky and there is never a shortage of drama. I was made to feel very uncomfortable by a member of staff which i found was very unprofessional and uncomfortable. Also, the owner made comments about leaving things on a spare bed in our room - this was not a spare bed we had paid for it but just chose not to sleep in it as we preferred to sleep together. The fact that this was brought up to us and we were advised if we did not clean up the room we would be moved or asked to leave, was extremely unprofessional and made us feel like we had to leave. This was strange because we had seen plenty of other rooms in worse states than ours. And we were paying for this spare bed so what we had on it should be up to us. If you are only looking to stay for a night then this is the place - but if you want to stay long term and keep yourself to yourself its definitely not the place for you.

We have been staying at this hostel for more than 2 weeks and we can only recommend it. It is clean, the atmosphere is great, it is so easy to get to know people, but the best thing about this place is the staff. Anna is amazing ! She does such a great job and whatever problem you have, she will try to solve it. The only negative thing is that it is very hard and sad to leave Globetrotters and all the lovely people there once you want to go on travelling.

This was our first time staying in a Backpackers hostel. Initially we were sceptical and hence booked only for couple of nights. But we prolonged our stay for one week. This place is very secure , peaceful and well maintained. We extended our stay in instalments and hence had to shift almost four rooms in a weeks tenure. Room no 61 was very comfortable and given a choice we would definitely recommend this to the backpackers.
The staff was very accomodative and helpful. The best thing is the location being very close to Espalanade. The following are must do for the tourists apart from scuba diving/snorkelling in Great Barrier reef:
1.Cycling in Cairns. There are cycle guides available which guides you to the nearby cycling spots.
2.Walk to Espalanade and a dip in the Lagoon, a large swimming pool overlooking the sea..
3.BBQ at Cairns Botanical Gardens near Centenary Lakes..

Most important: For somebody who doesn't know swimming please don't get carried away with Sea Walking as an alternate option to explore the reefs. Instead please go for Guided Snorkel Tour which is more exciting and viable way (financially as well) of discovering the corals.

Day trip to Daintree forests and Cape tribulation wasn't so much of fun instead would recommend River Cruise for spotting Salt water Crocs.

Room Tip: Room no 61 is a larger room compared to the rest and very comfortable.

This hostel far exceeded my expectations. The rooms were very clean and the showers were clean and big. There were plenty of places to hang out around the common areas and the staff was very friendly. The staff was the main reason for my liking of this hostel. They were very helpful in setting up trips around the area and very accommodating. Our flight was late at night and even though check-out was at 10am they stored our luggage for us and let us use the common area facilities. The wi-fi was also free, which is unusual for Australia. I recommend staying here and they have a variety of rooms to stay in! One of the best hostels I've ever stayed in!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two weeks while visiting Cairns. The rooms are average, not as we expected based on the photos online. Cooking facilities were basic (if you were able to use them due to overcrowding). The location of this hostel however cannot be faulted. It's approx 10-15 minute walk to the city centre and lagoon. Compared to other hostels we have stayed in the bedding isn't great. Pillows are practically non-existent. The shower in our room was handy but NEVER hot unless you showered at 5am or 11pm and not very powerful.

The hostel mainly run by backpackers who are travelling themselves and work around the hostel (cleaning etc) is of a poor stranded if carried out at all. In the two weeks we stayed there someone cleaned our bathroom everyday but the hoovering and kitchen units were never touched!

During our last couple of days the owners were around working on both reception and the hostel maintenance itself and the place felt like it had a completely different atmosphere...a welcoming one!!

I would stay in this hostel again if it was for only one night on my way to another location.

Great, friendly staff. Hostel always very clean. Beds all comfortable. Free wifi. Lovely, large communal areas, including a swimming pool. Help always available. I travelled with my partner and it was perfect for couples, although all single friends we made there had equally wonderful experiences. Quiet from 11pm, which meant a good nights sleep every night. Peaceful and relaxed, but still social. Really close to the water, and only a 10 minute walk to the city. A real home from home!
