Owner description: Alongside Cairns is a magnificent tidal estuary that is rarely seen, except by fishermen. Only accessible by boat, M.V. Crocodile Explorer is a comfortable, air-conditioned vessel taking small numbers of visitors along Trinity Inlet on this scenic nature cruise. With waterways winding through a 300 square kilometre maze of mangroves, expect rich diverse wildlife, stunning scenery and a relaxing cruise with informative commentary from our crew. This is the saltwater crocodile’s natural habitat – with a chance to spot them basking on the muddy banks particularly in the cooler months. Cairns Harbour Cruises depart daily at 11.00am and 1.30pm for a 2 hour cruise. We also offer an evening cruise departing at 5.30pm daily.Picture yourself drinking sparkling wine while watching the tropical sunset from Trinity Inlet. A sunset cruise aboard the MV Crocodile Explorer sets the tone for an unforgettable evening. As our friendly crew greet you on board you will be offered a welcome drink to enjoy on deck prior to departure. The Sunset Cruise allows passengers to soak in beautiful views of the waterways, mangroves and mountains in the magical early evening sun. The 90 minute cruise includes a sparkling wine, standard beer, wine or soft drink and savoury nibbles on arrival.

only $30 or so, and you get to see another side of cairns. didn't know that mangroves could be so interesting. You only need half a day to do it, so the other half of the day you can still go to the lagoon to hang out.

We had always been interested to go up the Inlet in Cairns but because of crocs didn't like to hire a small boat. So we took the Harbour Cruise going up the Inlet along the docks of Cairns and later along the Mangroves up to the crocodile farm which is only accessible by this way.So after the boat cruise you continue on a bus. The tour was also available with bus tour first. This crocodile farm ist not a showground like Hartley's the breed crocodiles and you could see the nests and the crocs looking maliciously at you but though a fence and at save distance. After the tour through the farm we were carried by bus back to the reef terminal.
I'm afraid the other reviewers have mixed up the harbour cruise with a reef tour but it is not a reef tour

There really isn't much of a Cairns harbour as such. So this tour - I took the evening one - goes up the estuary and you get to see the mountains just inland of the town from a different perspective, the mangroves that form such an important part of the local ecosystem and the occasional salt water crocodile.

The light food supplied was lovely, the commentary interesting, the views and the mangroves and the crocodiles meant the cameras kept clicking and all up it was a lovely way to spend some of the evening. As you come back to the dock in Cairns the way the place is lit up is interesting as well.

Given this cruise leaves from the heart of Cairns it is probably within walking distance of most of the accommodation tourists are likely to have booked and it is suitable for all ages. Recommended.
