I have been visiting First House for well over a year now - and for good reason! Time and time again the food is consistently delicious, Alex and Vincent are wonderful hosts, service is friendly and there is always something new on the menu to try, just ask. My favourite dish would have to be the 'pho' or beef noodle soup however Ive never been disappointed when trying something new and different. The chicken salad for entree is fairly large and super tasty, the quail for entree is also a must. Other favourite main dishes would have to be the soft shell crab and the satay chicken/beef, yum! The restaurant itself is very simple, the menus by no means 'fancy' but don't be put off, the flavours of the dishes more than make up for this! You just need to give it a go.
You'll find First House close to Rusty's fruit & veg markets - try out their lunch specials after your weekend fruit and veg shopping. Its also right across the road from 'The Jack' which is a pub/hostel on Spence street. For me, First House is a local favourite of mine, fair prices (in comparison to restaurants closer to the esplanade) and we're always welcomed with a smile. Oh, and it's also BYO, which is always a bonus in Cairns!
