“A view of the rain forest by rail and gondola”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 February 2014

We took the train to Kuranda and the skyrail down. You ride above the trees in the gondola and at the mid point we disembarked to walk through a portion of the rain forest. Very interest but hot on a warm summer day.

“Good but not as great as expected”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 February 2014

Went on the skyrail (gondola) on the way up and the train on the way back.

The service from the staff members were all great. They were friendly and very helpful. So that's always a bonus.

The ride on the skyrail was smooth and the view was okay - not spectacular. The views of the kauri trees were nice and the walks on the stops were good too.

As for Kuranda, the town was good to walk around and for lunch too. More of a lunch stop really. As for the train ride, the train itself plus the train stations were great to see and the history of the train/tracks were good to listen to but the trip itself was a big disappointment. The train was very slow and the smell of the smoke in the tunnels were horrible plus the sights weren't that spectacular either.

We were glad we did it but its not something that we would cherish too much, unfortunately.

“Kuranda train and sky rail to and from Cairns”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 February 2014

The most well organised tour. The train is impeccable, old style riding, service on board perfect. Snacks excellent. The area is superb, views and vegetation most interesting. The story of the building of the train and its usage well documented. After visiting Kuranda, the Sky rail is a treat.
Highly recommended. Too bad we had only one day. This is a place to visit for a few days. Hotels and restaurant clearly well organised too.

“More than a cable car and trail ride”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 February 2014 via mobile

We opted for cable car up and train back because that's what our friends said. Not sure if there is any significant difference. The cable car ride was smooth and quiet although the rain and fog made seeing the canopy difficult. The couple of stops along the way were informative. The town of Kuranda was beautiful and plenty of shops and food. I found the rain ride back was the highlight of the trip. There is so much history in this part of the world and recorded messages over the PA give a great insight.

“Nice but expected more”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 February 2014

Did this the day we returned from a 4-day cruise on the Coral Princess II. Bus picked us up at the hotel, shuttles you to the Sky Rail above 15 mins away. Gondola takes you over the tree tops. Views were good but not incredible. Water falls low given the time of year we visited. The Kauri pine trees are magnificent. We also took the Aboriginal jungle walk which was quite nice and gave you a much better feel for how the indigenous people lived in the jungle. Karunda for us was just a lunch stop before taking the train back from Karunda. Yes, the construction of the track and its route is quite amazing but the train smoke through the tunnels causes you to want to hold your breath. The mango smoothie at the train station is a must before boarding.
