You will discover all types of activities going on in the Tablelands area. Especially the waterfalls on the Loop Road. Very interesting to see the types of agriculture and cropping in this area.

It was a wonderful independent day trip by car.
I highly recommend to rent a car to drive there.
We drove from Cairns. We turned right at the intersection in Gordonvale, drove a lot of switch backs (you will feel sick) up to the top, stopped at Lake Barrine (toilet! restaurant and a small boat) crossed Yungaburra (a small deli, not opened an Italian restaurant along the street) , stopped at Curtain Fig( wonderful!), Malanda (a small superstore) , Malanda Falls(small) , Millaa Millaa Falls(wonderful. You can swim), and Panorella Park.
It was a quite long drive (over 250 km), but great day trip.
I highly recommend to bring your own lunch / some food and drink from Cairns. As I wrote, there was nothing special place to have lunch and dinner.
Panorella Park.....the admission fee is 42 AUD. IT WAS VERY EXPENSIVE. SUPER RIP-OFF

Trip was boring. Our day tour spent too long making toilet stops and morning tea and afternoon tea as well as lunch stops which ate into the day. We also wasted time being taken to a dairy shop when we thought we were on a sightseeing tour. The whole afternoon was spent at the Spanish Castle- not great! Much better things to see in this area-would not recommend. Tablelands could be driven to, if you have car but not really that exciting!

Ignore any tours. Rent a car and go for the day and make your own trip. Many of the places tours hit are free entry anyway (Milla Milla, Curtain Fig, Lake Eachem, etc.). This way you can plan your own itinerary and spend as long as you like at each location.

brilliant day ,probably our most enjoyable tour from Cairns. Paronella Park must have been a most impressive place when first built. And Megan our guide took us back in time with her educational story of the family and there building of this Castle. All the best to Mark & Judy for dreams of preservation of one of Australia's truly heritage places.
