We always make one visit to Perrotta's each year we are in Cairns and still really enjoy it. This time we chose a dinner (never done dinner here before) and it was very pleasant. For some reason nowhere near as crowded as it is during the day time. It was a relaxed night and nice being able to chat and hear ourselves think compared to many of the others along the Esplanade and further along the pier front.....although roosting of the Lorikeets killed conversation for a short period whilst they were settling down for the night in the tree outside. Food continues to be good and service was obliging. Hiccup with the bill was quickly sorted.

We dined here, primarily because we were eating latish for lunch and they were still serving their lunch menu. The menu is pricey, even for Cairns, but their pannini range sounded appealing. A cubano, Yes Please! Beingone of my all time favourite sandwiches we definately couldn't pass that up, and a southern fried chicken sandwich with coleslaw, mmm, brings back memories of amazing food from Georgia, USA. Maybe we expected too much?

Our order was taken, and we didn't expect much of a wait with a nearly empty restaurant. Our order was up quickly and they dinged the bell to let staff know to deliver (we could see the order). Staff ignored and busied themselves with wiping glasses, one man (that could have been an owner or manager) was sitting talking to staff and drinking a beer. Our order sat.....going cold. I was about to go and get it my self when they dinged the bell again and finally the server realized. How unprofessional......

Now we were completely underwhelmed, the cuban sandwich was not a cuban! Cubans are filled with seasoned pulled pork, ham, pickled gherkins and finished with melty, oozy cheese and a spicy mustardy dressing. This soggy sandwich was sitting alone on a cutting board, each half the size of a deck of cards, underfilled with one slice of prosciutto, some pork that had the texture of sawdust and jalapenos which completely wiped out any other flavour. If there was cheese it was such a small amount that it must have soaked into the soggy outer bread. Completely unappetizing and for $15.....,

The Chicken Sandwich was more appealing, with the chicken moist. But the purple cabbage coleslaw was bland and dry and the whole sandwich ended up being one note and textureless after a bite of two. I guess, at least the fries were kinda warm, but for $19, a more refined and developed sandwich was expected.
Will we return? No.....

Had breakfast here and was advised that the restaurant food would be great. However after sitting on metal seats worse than in a public park for breakfast - cold, hard and just plain uncomfortable for the duration enough to make anyone's back ache, and then phoning.. where I enquired if there was same seating for the evening meal was advised curtly it was and when I explained I could not eat sitting on a steel chair the response was OK fine!!! Seems they really don't care about the comfort of their patrons who are prepared to pay the prices for good food and service but not for comfort! Guess we'll eat elsewhere! The attitude left a lot to be desired! Maybe the Cairns Gallery( Fine Art) ,and their associate business partner can get them to see some sense and install some comfortable seating! This is not a bust stop but supposedly a fine food centre! The service and food at breakfast was quite good!

Breakfast reasonably tasty however have had better eggs benedict with salmon as found the salmon a bit tough and chewy!. Coffee tasty and the carrot ,celery and ginger juice tasty. Tad expensive for juice, coffee, one beans and sausage and eggs benedict.
Service quite good. Seats very uncomfortable being metal and very heavy!

While touring Cairns, Perrotta's was highly recommended as a culinary option. While I only had their wonderful chocolate cake and cappuccino, the experience was exquisite -- the setting, the service, and the refreshment. Everything was perfection and really satiated the need.
