This gallery is not afraid to put on exhibitions that are of a high standard with an edge! There was an excellent display of 2 local female artists work and a Tasmanian landscape painter whilst I was there.

Forget mass-produced souvenirs - pick up some local creative momenos from the gift shop. Great price range. In the gallery there is a range of local and other artists exhibitions in a beautiful space. There are also a number of small galleries close by so ask at reception for directions - the gallery trail!! Definitely a taste of the local culture.

The Cairns Regional Gallery in the center of Cairns is an excellent small gallery that features works by Australian artists in different media. With just three floors, it can be completed quickly if you're short on time, or you can make it a leisurely two- or three-hour visit. Very nice works in a splendid old building. The small gift shop is outstanding; quality, variety, and unique items at very reasonable prices. Well worth a couple of hours!

We spent three hours here in February and were delighted to find that there was an
Arthur Boyd exhibition and this was the last few days. The famous Bride series was not
here but an excellent film gave us an insight into this body of work.

There were other interessting works such as Japanise origami which we enjoyed. It
was very quiet which was a shame but we did have trouble finding it because it
was not well sign posted. A regional gallery so we did not expect much but it was
well worth a visit.

A shop but no cafe but there was one next door and we could return to the gallery
after coffee if we wished.

Each floor's displays were very distinct. Some animated sketches from a New Zealand children's book author, next floor featuring vids and photo studies of creative young things in animated poses and the top floor had contemporary landscapes. Mildly amusing. Only $5 entry.
