I really enjoy a visit to the gardens but this year found that the orchid house and fernery were both closed, I think being revamped but a shame both unavailable at the same time. I do enjoy the walk around the other areas and especially home via the Saltwater or Freshwater Lakes.

a beautiful place to spend a few hours. Especially good if you can do it with a guide, so many fascinating plants to learn about.

I did some botanic watercolour classes here which I really enjoyed!

Not only that but it is just a nice place to get a coffee and walk around.

The Gardens are so close to the city and so accessible. There has obviously been a lot of work done in recent times and the results are great. Get an idea of the environment without leaving the city!

We love going back to Flecker Botanical Gardens nearly every time we go back to holiday in Cairns because they are well laid out and well maintained - there are lots of unusual tropical plants/trees that we have never seen before and it is a very pleasant feeling walking through the pathways around the gardens.

The bonus is that there is a nice café/restaurant situated inside the gardens area and we always have lunch there when visiting.

The other bonus is that just across the other side of Collins Avenue is Centenary Lakes which is more like a left in it's natural state wetland area with slightly elevated boardwalk that you can walk through to cross that area - there's a couple of smallish lakes (one fresh and one saltwater if my memory serves me correctly) once you walk throu8gh the boardwalk area and nice fairly open lawned spaces with areas of palms interspersed.
