I was staying in holiday inn cairns for 3 nights in the month of dec 2011 for my honeymoon. The first look of hotel is good. The staff was really helpful and sweet.Since it was my birthday when i was staying during the checkin they wished me whcih was quite sweet of them though i expected a small surprise or a gift from their side but that did not happen.Any ways since its centrally located its good for the tourists and would recommend it all the tourists coming to cairns. The staff is really helpful and always smiling and ready to serve you.

Room Tip: Take room with balcony.

We stayed at this property for three days in December, 2011. our package included a full breakfast. The property is conveniently located on the edge of downtown so everything is within walking distance. Being on the edge of downtown, the propery is quiet at night which makes for good sleeping. The rooms are spaceous enough and are clean and tidy. The breakfast buffet has all you can wish for including freshly made coffees and lattes. The dining room has a very good menu for dinner with reasonable prices (considering this is a resort town and prices are high to begin with).

Room Tip: if you want to have an ocean view, then ensure you request it as some rooms do not have an ocean vie...

Stayed at the hotel one night as we had to catch a very early plane to take us back home.
We arrived at the hotel after 1pm, but could not check in as the room was not ready for us. Reserved a room with a king size bed, got two singles put together.
Room and the hotel looked very tired although clean and the staff were not friendly. We asked for a wake up call for 3am and to book a taxi for 3.45am to take us to the airport. Unfortunately the wake up call never came (thankfully) 'just in case' we had a contingency plan to wake us up at that time. When we fronted at the reception and asked about the booked taxi, that also did not happen. Will think twice before we stay at that hotel again

Room Tip: Don't have any

Thank you for posting your feedback.

There were no surprises! Holiday Inns are usually clean and the rooms are usually basic, no frills. We had a good sized room, with a king sized bed(comfy), flat screen TV, desk/chair, and large balcony with a few chairs. The bathroom was very small and the shower was one of those ridiculous kinds that have half of a shower door. So, when we took a shower, water would be everywhere! We had to constantly remind the maid staff that we wanted 4 towels and washcloths in the room, daily. We also needed two floor mats, since the floor would be wet after we showered. We had breakfast included in our rate and the breakfast was pretty good. They had a variety of meats-chicken sausage, beef sausage, and bacon. They had eggs over easy(fried eggs) and scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, waffles(a little hard), hot chocolate, orange juice, coffee, fruit, and yogurt! The breakfast staff was pleasant and helpful, and so was the concierge/ porter. The hotel is in the perfect location-In walking distance from the marina, at the end of the Esplanade, which is good because it was quiet on that end, without being too far from the action! This hotel was worth the money we paid!

The HI Cairns look after their frequent guests with upgrades to Ocean view rooms with Balconies that overlook the bay, making for a nice evening drink location. I would echo others comments, the bottle shop is a rip off and the hotel now provides an empty fridge with mini bar contents available on request, much better to BYO.

Pool is nice, there is a laundry on every second floor that is very good value, while across the road are BBQs which make a spectacular venue for Breakfast, as they tend to be quiet and are cleaned each night!

First time visitor to Cairns and was lucky to pick the Holiday Inn. Great location at the end of the main strip of shops and adjacent to the Esplanade, which you will of course walk up and down many times on your trip. Didn't take long to walk to anywhere you needed to be in downtown Cairns. Great city to explore.

The room looks like it has been updated not too long ago. Nothing really worn out with all the amenities you expect from a Holiday Inn outside the US. And as usual the bathroom was pathetically small to the US standards. The bed could have been softer/more comfy for my taste, but I did have several nice sleeps on it since the multiple choices of pillows to get the right feel. Sheets and towels were not very high percale count, but what do you expect from a Holiday Inn, I wasn't paying for a 5 star so of course the amenities were close but not outstanding. The view was fantastic from our top floor room that was facing the water and looking down the Esplanade.

There is a hotel restaurant that we didn't use. But Cairns if full of wonderful restaurants, why would you ever eat in a hotel!!??!! Also a pool and jacuzzi we didn't use because of course it was raining the entire time we were there.

I would agree with the others, that the elevators are very slow. The walkways all around the hotel do in fact get soaked wet when it rains. That will make more sense why if you stay there, no roof anywhere over the common areas, and surprise, it rains in the tropics. We also saw room service items sitting outside in the walkways for about a day before being picked up, very odd to Americans who expect everything to be done yesterday.

Check in and out was quick. The desk staff was always nice and able to answer our questions and requests. I even borrowed a personal apple product charger from one of the workers since mine had the US prongs. I believe the hotel charges a small fee/deposit if you want to borrow a plug adaptor.

Best part of the room was sitting on the balcony as the very large Flying Foxes flew by on their nightly departure from a park nearby. Very cool.

Would go back again without hesitation. I am sure there are fancier hotels in Cairns, but for the price we paid I doubt they would have as much value.

Room Tip: Get the Ocean View rooms to get a balcony, otherwise not worth it....

Hi Azgators,

Thank you for your comprehensive review.

I agree with your comment that our bathrooms are small, however there were renovated in 2008 so what they lack in size they make up for in modern facilities.

We pride ourselves on our service and knowledge and was happy to read that our staff were able to help you with your requests.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and everything Cairns has to offer.

Hi NoodlesNilsson,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of the Holiday Inn Cairns.

The internet charges are based on a third party provider costing. Because of this the charges are higher than residential rates.

I have passed your comments on to our food and beverage team regarding breakfast.
