“Good Value”
Reviewed 8 September 2007

We stayed at the Discover Resort for 4 nights. The only problems we encountered were in check in. The manager told us that when we booked twin beds we didn''t realize that it was a double bed and a sofa bed. I wasn't happy with the sofa bed option so fortunately he booked us in a room with 2 double beds. The room is a reasonable size. The door to the bathroom/shower is a see through fixed louvre door. My partner wasn't happy with this.
Apart from that room was clean and we were happy with the daily servicing of the room.
The resort is a little distance out of town but we weren't to fussed about it as we had a car.

We stayed at the Discover Resort for 4 nights while staying in Cairns and we really enjoyed it. The room was spacious and clean. We ordered a pizza from the restaurant and it was great value for the money. The front desk was friendly and helpfully suggested some activites to do while in the area. It's a bit of a walk to the heart of town (about 4 blocks) but we enjoyed the stroll. The price we got by booking online was very reasonable and we think Discover Resort is a great value. We stayed in 4 different hotels during our 2 week travels in Australia and this one was our favorite.

The Discovery Resort, Cairns, is a great place to stay - even it really isn't a "resort," per se. (To me a resort would have substantial activities on property - this place has none of that, In the States, this place would be called a Motel.)

Situated about 5 LONG blocks (north) from CBD, it is in a fairly quiet area - but those thinking about walking it from the train startion should really think twice. One must walk through a run-down part of town to reach it.

The property consists of two small, two-storey buildings arranged in an L-shape. A small laundrette is located on the bottom floor ($2 wash, $2 dry, $1 soap).

A rather nice Italian restaurant is located on property.

Check in was fast and efficient. I found the room to be on par with Holiday Inn-minus, or Motel 6-plus. The floor was linoleum, and the chairs plastic. But it was spotless. Toiletries are provided, as well as a coffee maker, ice box, and microwave were in my room.

For the price, this place is a real Gem. A definite keeper on my list.

We stayed in a twin room, which was very small, but adequate. Room was clean and the bathroom spotless. Air-con worked well. Beds were uncomfortable and the fridge's thermostat was turned down very low, so we had to turn it up to keep our drinks cold. We were warmly greeted upon arrival. The attached cafe/restaurant is excellent and highly recommended. We paid $97 a night here and would stay again, although we would probably try to find something a bit closer to town. It was a good 15-20 minute walk into the centre of Cairns, which wasn't too much of a problem.

This motel was a great place to stay. Our room was quite spacious, very modern and very comfortable.

We went to Cairns in Nov 2006 for 3 days and found that the Discovery Resort was not too far from the centre of town with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. We were able to walk to most places. The only downside to the room was the noise of the road nearby.

The staff on reception were extremely helpful and made us very welcome.

Highly recommended!
