We spent a night at the Mercure hotel which was good but not conveniently located compared to the Hilton. The room was a good size, clean well decorated. Beds were confortable and linen perfect. The bathroom was roomy and looked quite luxurious with the marble walls. The only problem with this room was the air conditinning. It wasn't powerful enough to keep the humidity out of the room. Even though we open the patio door the least possible, the air conditionning was turned off before we got in the room and the next morning the room was still muggy. On the brighter note. This hotel had the best view i've seen throughout Australia. Just gorgeous looking out on the hills and the marina. Excellent choice if you want a terrific view and to be close to all the activities that can be done in Cairns.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the highest level if you don't want the palm trees to block the view. Rooms tow...

I use this Hotel twice a month for transit travel through Australia and have had no problems. Staff are friendly and always ready to assist where required. Room rates can be a bit pricey compared to others on offer however for the money I think you do get an overall better room and qaulity of service,

Hard to write a review where you had a full swing in service and hotel comfort. Let me start off with the good.
We had to leave at 4:00 AM on a Saturday in order to catch our connecting LAX flight from Brisbane. Needless to say you (us) are not thinking at 100% and were trying to get everything together in a major hurry. In our haste we left documents in a white three ring binder on the bed (the binder blended in with the white sheets). I called the hotel and the night clerk said that he would take care of it and send an e-mail back to confirm. Twenty plus hours later I checked for e-mails and there was nothing, 32 hours later I received an e-mail (sent a few hours after we left) stating it would be airmailed the next delivery (no delivery on Saturday). Mission accomplished, thank you very much.
We our “Diamonds” at Hilton, therefore we get breakfast and access to the concierge lounge. We not drink, so the evening open bar is nothing to us, but we did enjoy breakfast and Ann’s (from Scotland) company a great deal. We were in Cairns so that we could visit the “Great Barrier Reef, but unfortunately the weather put an end to that idea. Ann came to the rescue with other ideas. She offered the movies and the how too, to get to the Zoo. We took advantage of her Zoo idea and it turned out to be a good idea, thank you Ann.
Bad, our room “916” squeaked because of the wind. I really think than when we checked in they knew this but gave us the room any way. No one wants to change rooms especially when to have about 7 pieces of luggage, but we could not put up the squeak any longer (the doors deadbolt plates were rubbing against other) . This move was taken care of by Chris the front office manager after asking him a second time much later in the day. We moved to room 901. A room with the same size but a great view, no more squeaking noise.
Yes this is a long review, but watch for squeaky rooms, but most of the staff was very helpful.
Final note Cairns is not a big town, mostly tourists, but unfortunately they have taken a big hit because of the recession and specifically Japanese tourists, who numbered 200,000 fifteen years ago and now number 80,000. Cheaper meals and accommodations can be found be sure and search.

Room Tip: Wind days can be a problem read my review. Entrance to the rooms is from an outside court and floor...

Dear Traveller,

Thank you for the review via tripadvisor - as Diamond Hilton Honors members we appreciate your continuing support. My apologies with the in room noise - possibly caused by high winds we experienced during early to mid April, I'm glad Chris was able to resolve finally for you. Anne and her team in the Executive Lounge are really valuable members of the team and they will appreciate the feedback - thank you. I hope we can welcome you back to Hilton Cairns again sometime.

Yours sincerely,

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of an Australian tour. The room was well laid out but for some reason we kept sliding down the bed towards the bottom. Other guests experierenced the same thing, in their beds. The room was clean but when I did a "Hotel Inspector" move under the telly I was amazed. Try it and see for yourselves, it's real bush tucker! There is free WiFi in the lounge but slow. Food is good as was the breakfast but sandwiches for lunch cost over $50 per person. (Go outside around the corner for a lovely sandwich shop). Watch out if you make any phone calls from the hotel. My college got charged $150 for a call to his credit card company in the UK.
Try "Dundees" restaurant on the front near the hotel, but you may need to book, and sit inside as there are lots of ants on the outside.
A nice hotel in a good location with friendly staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view, and watch the world go by.

We didn't stay here, but came to see the magician show with the dinner package. The dinner was quite nice - a choice of 6 very different meals from around the world, plus starters and dessert - so yummy. It was served in the cafe rather than the restaurant, which was a bit of a sly trick of marketing by Hilton, but at least the venue, staff, and food were wonderful. The magician show was intimate - only a small group of people made it seem quite interesting. The show was ok - the magician did a few tricks that were impressive, but some were quite obvious and not performed optimally. Overall the show was just ok, maybe a few more tricks might have made it a little better.

Dear Diner,

Thank you for the review on Tripadvisor. I’m pleased to read that you’ve enjoyed your meal in Mondo Café Bar and Grill. I do need to point out an inaccuracy in your review - the Beyond Limits show is performed, sold and marketed via an entertainment company independent to the Hilton and is not a Hilton show. We are pleased that our Café, Mondo, is the venue for their dinner guests with the show is well recommended as fun and entertaining event for visitors and locals.

Yours sincerely,

John Lucas| General Manager
