My wife and I needed a break and took up a package deal at the Hilton in Cairns. The location is excellent, close to the water and departures for the reef. It's also close to the city although Cairns CBD is not that large.
We found the room to be comfortable and clean and the staff were very helpful with any inquiry which we made.
What lets the hotel down is that it is in bad need of a make over. It's dated and tired. But the worst aspect is the food and beverage arrangements. Our package included a cooked breakfast which was amongst the worst we have ever encountered. The range own offer was limited in variety but worse was the fact that many of the dishes were empty more often than they were full and the wait for replenishment was 10 minutes or more. We ordered an omelette (only lumpy scrambelled eggs were sometimes available) and waited half an hour. Fruit was of second quality and no low fat yoghurt was on offer. The cold meats were sickly looking and we suspected that they were recycled from day to day. The only other restaurant was an outdoor cafe which provided reasonable quality food but which was could not cope with the intermittent showers which occur in Cairns over the summer months.
Overall disappointing from a brand hotel.More
