“Disappointing”
Reviewed 7 October 2012

Firstly, its no longer the All Seasons, just the Cairns Gateway resort, the address is the same.

Reception was friendly and warm, but business hours only are kept, and they are SHUT on Sunday.

The unit was okay, budget and facilities in the resort were good. The gardener was super friendly and helpful, our disappointment was our room was filthy. After a days travelling in shoes, and then walking round the unit in bare feet we noticed the souls of our feet were black. A wet towel used to clean the floors was similarly BLACK, and left for the cleaners. Hairs on the vanity and in the basin and showers were not appreciated.

Would have been very good value and a great place to stay if only it was clean.

Room Tip: Ask for it away from the Bruce Highway, we slept okay with a room close to the highway, but others m...

Gateway resort ticked most of the boxes when we needed a reasonably priced accomodation while we attended to some business in Cairns. We had a studio with King bed, flat screen tv, kitchen with full size fridge, two hot plates, microwave and plates, cups etc. For what we paid it was excellent value, our room overlooked the pool and was close to the road but quiet despite this. No room service was included in the price. Some pros and cons:

Pros: Good size room and bed
Kitchen fully equiped for cooking simple meals
Nice pool area with barbeque and undercover seating
Close to Southside Shopping centre, with IGA, takeaways, butcher, bottle shop, hairdresser
Rooms at a great price
Staff seemed friendly
After hours check in and key drop
Nice cold air con

Cons: Cleanliness was an issue in the room, bathroom was not very clean, with lots of mould and unflushed toilet from last resident, dust on surfaces, cups in cupboard stained from tea and coffee
An empty beer can sat on the stairs for a week and no one removed it

Apart from the couple of cons, this resort is fantastic value in overpriced Cairns. Please note that this place is around 10 minutes out of town, so you will need a car if you stay here. I would stay here again as it was a good price and had all the things we needed.

I stayed in this resort for 1 week and for the price it was a good standard. The pool area was very nice and relaxing. There was no pool bar or food services available(except for a vending machien). The location is about 20 mins DRIVE from the centre of the city and the nearst shop is about a ten minute walk. We rented a car so location wasnt an issue. Our room was never cleaned or we were never given fresh towels or linen for the bed- this would have been the biggest downfall of this resort. Also there was no free wifi in this hotel

lets be frank, you dont come to cairns to sit in a hotel, you come to see the great barrier reef, and the national parks!

we were not looking for luxury just somewhere clean, and after some of the hotels we have stayed in during our trip in australia this ticked all the boxes.

big clean rooms, fresh towels and sheets, old style air conditioning, fridge (only ice size freezer), toaster, kettle and microwave (downside with our room had to wash up in bathroom sink), decent size shower/bathroom kingsize bed (was very hard and was 2 singles joined together). some of the lights needed replacing and some of the decor could be updated, rough around the edges but it was clean and comfortable. i wouldn't stay here for a "hotel resort" holiday as it is close to the road so not very relaxing by the pool but if you want somewhere quiet to sleep at night and keep your bags in the day while you get out and experience cairns/reef and further this is perfect around $60 a night, but ask for weekly deals and check wotif.com we got a great deal but i wouldnt be happy to pay full price. there is a great BBQ area although not under-cover and a laundry which you can do washing in for $3 a load.
i would also say this if you have a car or you are planning to hire then this is a good option as it is about 15min drive from the centre/esplanade but it is not so great if you have no transport as taxis vary ridiculously in price and buses are not much fun to wait for. the local IGA is a 10min walk if that (also Mcdonalds and a few takeaways) although i wouldn't rely on it as it is limited in supply and overpriced the woolies and coles further up is a better option.

we had a car accident on the way up and got delayed by 5 days, we called and they let us change our booking at no extra cost so we didnt loose any days, we found the reception very friendly and gave us lots of info on great trips to take on the reef lovely people!

Room Tip: book at wotif.com or ask for the weekly special

I stayed here for a total of about 8 nights over my recent 2 week trip to Australia. The rooms were clean, and the staff was helpful. It's in a good location, about a 5 minute walk to the center of town - aka the Mushroom Square. We had an included continental breakfast with our stay, which was nice. The expanded breakfast and a la carte items were somewhat lackluster though. The continental breakfast was fine for a few days, but I strongly recommend going elsewhere for breakfast. All in all, a great stay!
