Stayed at the Acacia Hotel for 2 nights in August 2010, We opted for the Motel Room over the hotel room, The room was a little dated but was extremelly comfortable and a good size, 1 large double bed and 2 single beds, Tv, Air Con, Fridge. The hotel pool was very nice but unfortunately wasnt heated and was freezing cold despite the air temperature being 28oC. Breakfast was included and was very good, plenty of choice.
The only downside i can think of is the location as it's about a 20 minute walk to the centre of town and is quite close to Cairns Airport so rooms at the front overlooking the sea could be prone to a little bit of Aircraft Noise when the planes take off.

Arrived at 10 am hoping a room may be available (even 'though check in time is 2 pm) however all we got from the 2 ladies at the front desk was "no rooms available" - no sorry, no smile, no sense of service!

We returned about 5 times up to 2pm (assigned check in time) - just to check with still the same response - no rooms available! Still no smile, no sorry, no concern for their clientele. In all our trips to Cairns and around Australia, we have never had to wait past the alloted time for check in for a room (available at 2.10 pm)! Surely one room would have been cleaned before 2.00 p.m. if check out time is 10.00 a.m.! Our main grudge is that no-one smiled, no-one made us feel welcome, none of them seemed to care - these guys shouldn't be employed in the hospitality industry! When we finally got into the room we rang room service for extra towels (to use at the pool) - no problem they said. No towels did we receive! Room OK, facilities as you would expect for a budget room but crap service.

I had a read of a few reviews and seen a lot of people bagging the staff. I had stayed there overnight once before and did not notice the staff. As this was my scond time and I stayed for a week I did notice how un-friendly the staff were and clearly giving the opinion they don't want to be there. I had breakfast included with my stay, each morning I went down and handed my voucher over and not once in 5 mornings did I get a "hi", "hello" or even a smile. It does gt a bit busy in the restarunt as I think a lot of locals have dinner there so you must book to have dinner. The staff at reception desk really set the standard for the hotel making you wait until they want to serve you.

A plus side is the food for breakfast and dinner was good and the room was big spacious but there it was only me in the room. Its a nice enough hotel but its up to you if you want to risk th staff and stay there.

We only stayed here because we had points to use with Best Western. Otherwise we would have looked for something more personal or boutiquey. However, the room was very nice and clean, and the location wasn't bad. The thing which really pulled this place down though (almost to Tripadvisor 2 stars) was the service. Often the front-desk staff seemed to be trying to get rid of you as soon as possible, and one or two of them looked as if they had a real attitude problem. The grumpy service really spoilt our stay. If the service had been good, I'd recommend this place - as it wasn't, I won't.

This establishment would be more correctly rated as two star. My workplace used this hotel reguarly over a period of a few years until recently, however we will not patronise this business again. The management staff seem more concerned about getting their next drink from the bar than really taking any notice of the condition of this place. The front desk staff check you in and out with long faces and an attitude that implies you are an interruption in their day. The rooms are frequently poorly cleaned, with strands of hair nearly always to be found all over the bathroom. The rooms are not very sound proof and as such you can hear every word from the other guests or television next door. Generally, this place could do with some refurbishment work and an upgrade of decor. It is located out of the city centre which is often inconvenient, especially if you want to have a drink with a nice evening meal in town, thus adding more expense with the use of taxis. For the price you pay here you can get a much higher standard right in the city centre so the value for money just isn't there. Do yourself a favour - try out somewhere else and Acacia Court will become a fading bad memory as it is now for us.

This hotel could do with some updating and general maintenace. The cleanliness was Ok but decided not to look too much. The hotel staff could also do with some training i.e. to smile at their customers and be civil would be a good start. It always seemed as if we were too much of a bother and inconvenience!.Wouldn't stay here again.

My husband and I booked this hotel for what we thought was going to be 3 nights. We planned to explore Cairns for a few days before embarking on a 7 night dive trip. We opted to "sleep cheap and eat well", so we purposely booked a reasonably-priced not-many-frills hotel.

Due to a cyclone, our dive trip was postponed, and we ended up staying at this hotel for 10 days. It wouldn't be our choice for a 10 day vacation, but it was more than adequate for what we needed.

Jeanette at the front desk was charming. She graciously assisted us with driving directions and suggestions for places to go and things to do. When we requested a room change, she quickly made arranged for us to move to a room with an ocean view.

The breakfast buffet is plentiful with a variety of choices. We noticed many locals came to the restaurant for lunch and the dinner buffet. The room service menu was different from the restaurant--we particularly enjoyed the lamb chops.

Our room, which had a private balcony, was clean and adequately furnished. There was a small refrigerator and coffee maker. There is a full service liquor store onsite and we were able to keep our Australian wines chilled. Our main complaint was that is was difficult to regulate the temperature, and most of the time the air-conditioning made the room much too cold.

We had a car and were able to reach anyplace in Cairns within 15 minutes. It's located on the Esplanade and we could walk for miles along the ocean. It was a delightful place to stay while we explored Cairns and environs.
