“excellent value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 November 2010

Stayed at this hotel for six nights in October 2010. Found the staff were helpful, perhaps with signs of understaffing at busy times. The location was lovely and the walk to and from town centre most enjoyable.

Breakfasts were good and taking into account the general prices for buffet dinners in Cairns were excellent value. Loved the swimming pool and enjoyed the view from my comfortable sea facing room.

Would have no hesitation in staying there if i were to visit Cairns again

Enjoyed

We paid A$95/night for a ocean view in October. The location was a bit of a walk from the main area of town, which is okay if not too humid and if you're not too tired. Evening walks were delightful, right on the esplanade. Taxi was $20 from airport and $10 from centre of town. Reception staff are perfectly efficient, okay in the friendly-meter, every we asked for was obliged, the wait/kitchen staff are very friendly. Beds very comfortable, room clean & everything worked - it wasn't a luxury stay, perhaps a little dated - but certainly good value for money, especially when you're out all day sightseeing.

Hotel staff were not friendly and it seemed like I was interrupting their day to check me in. Once I was settling in my room a nasty electrical sound was be emitted from the back of the TV when I turned it on. I informed the reception staff of this and they sent someone (who I assumed was housekeeping staff) up to have a look. The staff said the "TV picture and the sound was still working" so it was OK even though there was a loud electrical hissing coming from the back. I informed the staff that this TV should not be used and could I get another room to which they replied "no rooms available". It wasn't until I asked to speak to the manager that I was allowed to have another room (which seemed to be available).

Checking out the next day a young couple where trying to check in early. Without even checking the computer the staff rudely said no rooms available until 2pm without even offering to look after their luggage.

Second stay that week wan't any better. Airconditioner didn't work, multiple hairs left in the bathtub .... wouldn't recommend staying here.

My husband and I stayed in an Oceanfront room for 6 days and found the hotel to be very good. The price for this was only $109 per night which included Hot & Cold buffet breakfast for 2 which was excellent with a good variety of food. The pool was beautiful, and we also used the full size tennis court which had lights which was great. Although the position is about a 25 minute walk down to the City Centre it was a leisurely stroll along the waterfront. There was cable TV and the room was lovely. We would definately stay there again as the prices and facilities are great.

Stayed here one night. Rate 75 AUD which was quite cheap. But the room.......omg. Furniture outdated, gloomy and dark, and the bathroom looked like a war bunker. But the worst was the smell. Awful. My fault I didn't ask to change room. Too tired and lazy. Maybe other rooms are a bit better. Should you ever go there, avoid room 209.

Stayed at this "Hotel" in September 2010 for 3 nights. The only thing postive I can say about the place is that my room had a nice large modern bathroom and the housekeeping staff were fine.

The decor in the room was dated, The linens and bed sheets were probally from the 1970's. The hotel is about 1 mile walk from the town center.

The service was dreadfull, they only had one person at the front desk. My check-in wiat was 30 mintues. The person running reception was definetly overwhelmed. The various persons working the front desk were ot pleasant.

Stayed at the Acacia Hotel for 2 nights in August 2010, We opted for the Motel Room over the hotel room, The room was a little dated but was extremelly comfortable and a good size, 1 large double bed and 2 single beds, Tv, Air Con, Fridge. The hotel pool was very nice but unfortunately wasnt heated and was freezing cold despite the air temperature being 28oC. Breakfast was included and was very good, plenty of choice.
The only downside i can think of is the location as it's about a 20 minute walk to the centre of town and is quite close to Cairns Airport so rooms at the front overlooking the sea could be prone to a little bit of Aircraft Noise when the planes take off.
