It's been a few years since we lasted stayed at the Pullman but a "locals special" tempted us back this weekend. While the common areas remain lovely and the staff out front are as attentive and polite as ever, the rooms have lost a lot of their shine.
Being on a special we weren't surprised to get what was clearly a "lesser" room (directly above the noisy Ultimate Party bus stop), but the tiredness of the room still was a disappointment. Nothing specific that you could really point at and say "that's bad", but just a general feeling.
Water pipes that squeal whenever someone has a shower, room doors that need a very hard slam to close, a TV the size of a (small) laptop and a remote control that only seemed to work when it wanted...these were all minor annoyances that certainly dulled the shine of what used to be the best hotel in Cairns.
We'll stick with the (much cheaper) Sebel across the road or Shangri La in future.
